2nd Amendment Freedom: D.C. Residents Ride to the Sound of the Guns
The Patriot Room ^ | June 30, 2008 | Bill Dupray

Posted on 06/30/2008 10:08:42 AM PDT by Bill Dupray

For 30 years D.C. was ruled by liberals who thought they were better and smarter than the Founding Fathers. Justice Scalia told them otherwise, and D.C. residents are heading to the gun shops for some shiny new pistols. D.C. Officials are panicking.

I'd be willing to bet that crime will drop in DC.

I wonder why D.C. officials are panicky?

The Supreme Court ruled that the 2nd amendment means that we have an individual right to own guns, and that the D.C. law was unconstitutional. The challenge to the law went through the legal system and was decided. Don’t they have an obligation to acknowledge and enforce the legal standard? If thousands of people go to Maryland and Virginia and bring back guns legally to DC, there’s nothing legally that they can do. I know they are trying to set up a registration system, but the legal standard that people have a right to own a gun is what they have to follow.

I think the DC officials should reinforce their efforts to fight youth gangs who are armed and dangerous and committing crimes everyday. It bears repeating that a law abiding citizen with a gun is not a threat to anybody. But the gangs and criminal element are a threat to all of us.

Yeah, those poor criminals will finally be challenged.

Oh, what could be worse than an armed grandma protecting her grandchildren from random gang violence -- the horror.

“But the gangs and criminal element are a threat to all of us.”

Albeit, less so to those of us who are armed.

Josh Sugarmann head of the Violence Policy Center has a current FFL in Washington DC. Give him a call, maybe he’s selling out of his store :).

He’s one of the only FFLs in DC.

Just like Michael Moore is an NRA member and owns GM stock.
He only uses it to get into the stockholder meetings.

The VPC needs the FFL to get into the annual SHOT show.

DC residents just get on the beltway and drive to VA or MD. In high school we used to drive up Indian Head highway from MD to DC to buy beer and wine.

Some auburn baboon was on Dan Abrams the night of the decision saying criminals would break into peoples’ homes—to steal their guns!
And Danny was beside himself with fury and concern for the Constitution. And of course......the children.

All criminals fear and loathe armed citizens.

Also needed the FFL to bypass the DC gun ban laws, which was more important for him to be able to operate in DC proper.

In which case he isn't "engaged in the business", is holding an FFL for purposes other than intended, and the batboys should be on him like a case of the crabs. Think confiscation!

Any DC FReepers want to call FFL Sugarmann to order or receive a firearm, and then call in a complaint when he refuses? "He's fraudulently holding an FFL, Agent Dweeb!"

Do a search of how many gun shops exist in DC.

Plenty of legal, private sales available at gun shows in the neighboring states. Also they can now buy shotguns which don't have to be kept incapacitated anywhere.

Fortunately, those D.C. residents don't need to get a passport to cross the D.C. border to find a gun shop.

Fortunately, those D.C. residents don't need to get a passport to cross the D.C. border to find a gun shop.

It's illegal for an FFL holder to sell a handgun to an out-of-state resident, unless the handgun is shipped to a gun shop in the purchaser's state who then performs the background check and transfers the weapon. No gun shops in DC, no shop to ship the handgun to.

Rifles, shotguns and private sales don't have this requirement.

You don’t need an FFL to get into the SHOT Show.

Stop the presses! You mean she doesn't know that up until quite recently, guns in DC were a No No.

Then again she may thing that someone is going to go for a shiny new one. I would not think that to be a particularly great idea.

It is truly amazing to learn about these liberals in their meltdown.

You can’t buy a handgun in another state.
A local FFL must take possession and conduct the transfer.

That’s why I said private sales. You can buy a handgun in another state in a private (non-FFL) sale.

Looks like some DC residents need to get FFLs and set up their own shops.

No.
It has to run through a FFL in your home state.
Shotguns and rifles are different.

Not without having it transfered to an FFL in your own state, you can't (legally). It's stupid, but it's the law.

Hopefully there’s an FFL w/o a storefront in DC who can do the transfers.

Yeah, I know. Regardless, they still can’t go to any of the neighboring states and buy a handgun. It’s illegal (stupidity notwithstanding). It looks to me like there needs to be more licensed dealers in the district. This ruling could possibly be a springboard to getting some of these interstate restrictions removed.

Remember that The Clintons made the BATF retrieve the licenses of a significant number of “kitchen table” dealers in 1993. That makes it even tougher.
