Welcome to Free Republic.
Nine years ago? Try 14 July 1789.
In pops opinion it started with LBJ.
I’ll second that LBJ nomination.
Ill third that LBJ nomination
I’ll fourth that LBJ opinion.
And in fact—I said this about “missing America”,, several years ago—in poem form::

Unfortunately I never lived in Old America; LBJ was sworn in a few days before I was born.
It started with Marshall’s introduction of judicial review.
My old man (RIP) would say FDR.
Yah. This is another troll who is trolling for strident posts they can use to besmirch Free Republic. Look for zillions of them between now and November.
The seeds were sewn with Wilson and furthered by Hoover (no he was not laissez faire, which he admits by his own accord), FDR, and LBJ. I would say they were all major players. Hoover isn’t remembered because his economic meddling at least in part helped tip the scales to depression. FDR inherited something so low it was hard to worsen it. In my opinion, good old FDR is one of, if not, THE most overrated president.
It’s been a weird night for trolls around here, looks like the Kos Kids got their allowance for the month and they’re using it on internet access instead of pot, Doritos, or both.
No question about LBJ but look also at the regulatory legislation Nixon signed into law: Environmental Protection Agency, Endangered Species Act, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Marine Mammal Protection Act. He also signed executive orders and international agreements on environmental issues. He also gave us a taste of wage and price controls, a real disaster.
Thirded...
Probly a Kos Kid.
Yep, the whole place started going downhill after John Quincy Adams took office...
;-)
One thing’s for sure, though. It’s an election year and our more, um, fervent FReepers have got to keep it between the navigational beacons or be used to besmirch JimRob’s incredible site. It was done in ‘04, especially, and ‘06, and I’m hoping we won’t feed them ammunition in ‘08.
You joined yesterday to post this tripe?
What, it is too boring over at the Daily Kos?
Or, have you blown past the .10 mark on the meter?
You never heard of something called yellow journalism? It just seems worse now because news and opinion is everywhere 24/7.
Yo, Dood, âsup yo? There’s an intellectual height requirement on this ride. Since you posted this obvious troll, then failed to reply to any comments, I’m guessing you’re quite short. Man up. Buzz off. Come back when you’ve got something provocative or stimulating to say or defend.
I’m afraid I had to pull #24 for obscenity. Yes, even that little. Try it again without the four-letter words, and welcome to FR.
I miss honest trolls. Ash would be preferable to this type.
"Well I've said it before and I'll say it again America's best days are yet to come. Our proudest moments are yet to be. Our most glorious achievements are just ahead."
Ronald Reagan: Speech at the Republican National Convention, August 17, 1992
Arguably, we began to drift away, for good, from our Founding Fathers' vision for America after Harding and Coolidge--the last presidents who aspired to be Jeffersonian magistrates rather than elected kings.
However, I have always felt that our detour onto the Lost Highway began in earnest with the election of John F. Kennedy, a president who would appease the Soviets, fight a no-win war in Vietnam, and tilt toward the Third World and Europe's "democratic Left" while promoting the growth of Big Government at home.
Oh, if only Nixon had shaved before his first televised debate!
I miss the 40s and 50s, the country really started to go to hell in the 60s and hasn’t slowed it’s race to the ottom.
I was taught to despise FDR in a high chair in the 30s!
FReepmail is for cowards.
If you want to debate me, take it onto the forum.
I’ve read from this site for a long time, Im not here to be critizied , I joined simply to post my political thoughts and ideas, I think laregly outside the box, Im not here to bash anyone, I don’t know what a troll is outside of spiderwick and star wars buddy, your opinion is yours and mine is mine, im here all in good manner my friend, its not mindless, and Im going to make a name, look for me on the news buddy, and look for my articals to come, there going to blow your mind wether you share similar thoughts and beliefs or not, even if i hate the ideas of another man, i do admire the genious, educated speakings of there’s when it is deemed so, you can admire the thoughts of the enemies, America sure did Cornwallis’.
17th and dare I say, 19th Amendments! :-)
Nope. It started with FDR. He intimidated the Supreme Court into consigning the commerce clause of the constitution to the dustbin of history. Suddenly, the US congress had virtually unlimited power over everything.
After that, it has been a ratchet. Every time the left takes power, things get worse. When Republicans snatch it back, things stay the same or get worse at a slower rate.
One could argue it actually occurred when the income tax constitutional amendment was passed. But things were still under control until FDR stripped all effective restraints on the extent of Congress' powers.
Dude, here on Earth we use periods.
say what?
I’m sorry my old man didn’t talk to me more about politics. I remember as a kid that I was incredulous when he scowled and shook his head about Kennedy. (How in the world could you not like a good-looking young guy that got assasinated for goodness sake? At least as a 3rd grader that was my thought!)
“look for my articals to come”
I can’t wait. Hopefully you will be posting them on FreeRepublic - or some blog perhaps?
O Happy Day!
OldAmerica31 has decided to bless FR with his Articals and Educated Speakings!
welcome to the e e cummings punctuation appreciation thread
“...and look for my articals to come, there going to blow your mind wether you share similar thoughts and beliefs or not, even if i hate the ideas of another man, i do admire the genious, educated speakings of theres...”
Could this thread be a new classic ala “Cheese,” Moose,” “Sister,” “Hugh,” and “Series?”
He definitely wins high marks on poor spelling and punctuation!
LOL! e e cummings *SNORT*
You may have just won the award for the most senseless post on FreeRepublic. I recommend knocking off the weed for 6-8 hours before attempting a post.
Check out # 32....

Yuor hoemwerk assigment is to bild us a diarama.

And now kind friends, what I have wrote,
I hope you will pass oer,
And not criticise as some have done,
Hitherto herebefore
It all started with the F.D.R. administration appointing liberal judges that effect us even today.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but Chief Justice John Marshall insisted on judicial review, and the supremacy of the Federal judiciary over state law back in the early 1800's.
Let me guess - Marbury vs Madison?
