Billionaire, former mutual fund manager, Sir John M. Templeton has died. Templeton ran some of the most successful mutual funds during the initial boom years for mutual funds.
In 1939, when World War II began in Europe and the stock market was at record lows, Templeton borrowed $10,000 and bought 100 shares each in 104 companies that were selling at $1 a share or less, including 34 in bankruptcy. A few years later, he made large profits on 100 of the companies; four turned out to be worthless.
Templeton renounced his American citizenship in the 1960's and moved to the Bahamas.
He said his investment record improved after he distanced himself from Wall Street and no longer worried about the tax consequences of his decisions...

A real role model for today's corporate types. No understanding that some things are worth more than mere money.
"What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul."
So what? Today Mr Templeton stands before St Peter in his tightie-whities.
I don't quite understand your point. Are you saying that Mr. Templeton lost his soul because he renounced his American citizenship? Where is that in the Bible?
Brilliant Investor but also a bit wacked out, like Soros or some of the others.
If America didn’t have one of the worst Tax systems in the world he wouldn’t have had to renounce his citizenship. More people should revolt against our disgusting, unfair tax system.
Wasn’t he the first benefactor of the Heritage Foundation? I think he was one of the few Billionnaires who funded conservative think tanks. May God welcome him into heaven.

Nope. I’m not saying that at all.
I’m saying that I wouldn’t trade my American citizenship for a million times the money this gentleman amassed.
What’s yours worth?
Whether he traded eternal riches for ultimately worthless money that now does him no good is a matter between him and God.
Make sure he is buried in the Bahamas...
By giving up their citizenship? Wow.
Washington had no children, a great regret to him. Otherwise that is an accurate translation. ;-)
Stand beside her,
and guide her,
throught the night
with the light
from a bulb.
He’s dead, Jim.
Think of the mass exodus of capital from this country when 0bama becomes President. Yikes!
The U.S. has punished achievers for decades for being successful. While I might NOT have give up U.S. citizenship, that makes him no less worthwhile to U.S. and to millions of struggling around the world.
“Templeton was known for funding religion and science projects, donating millions to religious leaders, scholar, and scientists “
Kind of looks that he might have known where to permanently store his riches US citizen or not.
