Observe that the Lutherans cite government as “an important catalyst in God’s work.” In fact, their agenda implies that government is virtually God’s only instrument. The Lutherans want government to abolish poverty, prohibit war, cleanse the environment, engineer egalitarian justice globally, and seemingly usher in The Millennium through additional regulation and taxation. If government can achieve so much, who needs God, much less the church?

It is why (I believe) socialists and communist HATE the Bible and Christians. The plain words of the 10 Commandants are in stark contrast to what the socialists want. Virtually all the moral teachings and wisdom of the Bible have their roots in the 10 Commandments. Though these principles are more than 3000 years old, they still define the basis for a well-functioning society. Yes, it was the Roman government that executed Jesus. Without His death on the cross, we would all remain condemned.
It was the Roman hegemony that persecuted the Reformers in the most inhuman ways imaginable.

Nevermind my first question. I see that its the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Yes, that synod is pretty liberal. The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod is very conservative and in my extensive time in the synod, I have never heard a political endorsement of anykind.
The ELCA is the liberal version of the Lutheran Church; the Missouri Synod Lutheran is more conservative, although it is drifting leftward. Mark Tooley, the author, is an evangelical United Methodist; check him out at UMAction or "IRD."

Those of us who accept and believe God, and recognize His authority, will have a far easier time. Our past blessings as a nation were the direct result of the fact that, at one time, the vast majority of our population knew this. It seems to me that a majority of those who still know this truth are clustered in the Republican Party, especially the more conservative side of it. (I do believe that there are ‘moral’ folks scattered elsewhere, just not in the same numbers.) As a people, we have fallen so far, just in my own lifetime. Such a tragedy for us all.

I am also LCMS and have been for all 56 years of my life. Normally not many pastors say anything from the pulpit, but at non church events, I have heard some comments. The best by far was by our pastor AFTER he took off his clerical collar:
