Ventura Rips Franken, Enters Minnesota Senate Race
AZCONSERVATIVE ^ | 13 July 2008 | John Semmens

Posted on 07/14/2008 3:51:11 PM PDT by John Semmens

Former professional wrestler and Minnesota Governor, Jesse “The Body” Ventura has cast his hat into the ring as an Independent candidate for the Senate seat currently held by Republican Norm Coleman. Ventura said his candidacy was mainly inspired by a desire to “body slam that smirking, obnoxious twit—Al Franken—into political oblivion.”

Franken, the Democratic candidate for the seat, is perhaps best known for his years on the “Saturday Night Live” skit comedy show that has aired on NBC for over three decades.

“The ‘Al Franken Decade’ was over more than 20 years ago,” said Ventura, needling the comedian for one of his Saturday Night Live bits. “Hollywood already has enough influence on our government without us sending this carpet-bagging opportunist to represent Minnesota in the United States Senate.”

The “Al Franken Decade” was designated as a period in which every American was to ask himself or herself “what have I done for Al Franken.” Apparently, for now, the scope of that question is being narrowed down to what Minnesotans can do for Al Franken. Perhaps it will broaden again if a Senator Franken takes a seat in congress.

Even though the article is satire Semmens pretty well captures the essence of Al Franken with smirking, obnoxious twit

Won’t this just divide the vote and give that slimy, tax cheater, failed comedian, failed actor, failed radio talk show host Franken a better chance of winning.

Well, Jesse WAS the GOVERNOR ...

We just happened to catch part of ‘Predator’ this weekend while just surfin’ around the channels.

Do you think *anybody* at the time would have guessed they were watching two future Governors shooting up the bad guys???

cheee

From a conservative point of view, is Ventura a good candidate for the senate? What was his record like as Governor? Or is he simply less worse than Franken?

I actually don’t know. I think he’s libertarian but don’t quote me on that. But from what I have seen of him he is definitely not as bad as Franken.

Ventura was a independent who endorsed Al Gore in 2000. I think he proved to be too incompetent a leader and administrator to have much of a future in politics. Walking the populist line in a liberal state is difficult, and Gov. S. in CA has discovered.

I’m certain that ANYONE from MN or the Midwest knows a great deal more than I.

Few people ARE as bad as Franken, and I mean that in almost every sense. Franken was a comedy writer on SNL before he became a “not ready for prime time player”. But he was “on” a few episodes of the first couple seasons, apparently when nobody else would sign on to do the comedy idea/skit he was selling. Absolutely unfunny. When you saw Franken come on you knew it was an idea that even Garrit Morris didn't want to do.

Can't you just picture Jesse in the Senate ... body slamming Reid!

Well, maybe not. I enjoyed Jesse as Governor of Minnesota, he was a breath of fresh air to politics. However my in-laws, who live there were mad as he**, since he beat their candidate. He couldn't do anything right.

Political Radar: Jesse Ventura Will Not Seek Minnesota Senate Seat

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/07/jesse-ventura-w.html

Attention, moderator. Ventura is not running for Senate. He told Larry King last night that he isn’t. That part of this sidebar headline is mistaken.
