You can consider Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio) as definitely not enthused by former Vice President Al Gore's speech Thursday on U.S. energy policy.
Voinovich had an initial one-word response "ridiculous" to Gore's speech at Washington's Constitution Hall, in which the Democrat called for the United States to end its dependence on carbon-based fuels and begin using renewable energy to produce electricity within the next 10 years.
Voinovich elaborated that ruling out carbon-based fuels such as coal would be unreasonable because of the country's vast energy and economic needs. Instead, he said the country should take a multi-pronged approach that includes but doesn't rely solely on nuclear, wind and solar power.
"We could put windmills from the Atlantic to the Pacific and, yes, it will increase the amount of carbon-free energy production, but the fact of the matter is, it's not going to get the job done," Voinovich said. "What we need to do is to look at all of the various sources of energy
We'd be much more realistic to realize that it's going to take all of these things in order for us to meet our energy demands."
Make sure to read the comments at the web page. The first one: "Gore has finally snapped."
BTW.... wasn't it 15 or 20 years ago that we were told we had only 10 years left to save the oceans? I wonder what will happen if we don't switch energy production within 10 years.... [/sarc]
Finally?
Yeah... And since we haven't even developed the necessary technologies to accomplish Gore's goal, we'll have to go through discovering and developing these technologies, then getting approval for them, and then working on commercialization of these technologies, and then hope that after all of that... we have to hope that these alternatives are economically viable without massive public subsidies. Finally, we have to overhaul our energy infrastructure.
10 years... Sure. In. Your. Dreams. Gore.
And that pre-supposes that we're on the cusp of discovering these miraculous technologies that are going to make wind, solar, and tidal power generation feasible.
It probably takes 10 years at a minimum to develop an oil field. And that pre-supposes that the exploration was already done, site surveys completed, and government licenses had been obtained and all the legal bases had been covered.
AlGore is rediculous?....How can that be?
Somebody’s tagline says it all
Al Gore wantsthe rest of us to live like the Flintstones, while he lives like the Jetsons.
*pssst*Al*Naquada*pass it on...
I'm pretty certain that in Pelosi's home distriict a whole butt-load of rigs could be erected; and they'd be viable rigs too (for miles around)!
