Former Vice President Al Gore challenged the United States this week to supply all of the countrys electricity by renewable and carbon free sources within 10 years. Gores proposal includes investments in solar, wind, and geothermal power. He calls for a promise to all coal and oil workers that they will have guaranteed jobs out in the sun and fresh air. He further calls for no new coal or oil exploration. His stand is one that why waste time and money on energy that will not ever decrease in price.

You can go back to sleep now Al!
Actually he is calling for independence FROM energy. Big difference. Just like the stone age but without the fire.
I call for independence from ManBearPig.
Bummer, I thought he was in favor of drilling also...hehe
Because even at today's high prices, coal, oil and gas are many, many tmes cheaper than alternative energy. And energy independence will not help us if it raises our input costs way beyond what the rest of the world is paying.
If we have to pay $23/unit of energy (because it's renewable), while the rest of the world is paying $10/ unit, then it won't matter that it's from a renewable, domestic source, it won't "stick it to the Saudis", it will stick it to us.
I suppose Al hasn't thought it far enough through yet.
If you want energy independence, and you are a serious person, you have to favor the following.
#1. Drill everywhere.
#2. Keep drilling.
#3. Build coal-to-diesel plants in every coal-producing state. Now, already. This is old technology, there is nothing to hold us back.
#4. Build nuke plants in every state. Now.
If you want “non-carbon” energy, then its nukes, nukes, and more nukes.
Anyone talking about “energy independence” who isn’t backing these things is a con-man and he’s trying to get over on you.
Wind & Solar power are ‘dilute’ sources of power. Without adequate storage techniques they will remain at the margins. You might be able to get a small portion of your household energy requirement from them (depending on where you live), they’ll never be any good for transportation.
How much uranium is mined in North America? I’m not sure that when it comes to ‘Energy Independence’ that nuke power gets it done, either. Just askin’.
Wow, the man certainly must be a genius. /sarc>
Between the US and Canada there is plenty.
At one time the US was the world’s largest producer. Canada is now. The mining in the US dropped off as prices dropped. And there is a lot of environmentalist resistance to uranium mining. That isn’t the same thing as saying that there isn’t any. With the rise in prices they want to start mining again.
If you want energy independence you have to get out of their way and let them. Of course, I’d be happy depending on a resource that comes from Canada or Australia, where the largest known deposits are. But we have plenty here.
Algore is a nerd.
Please, don't assume this nut can think. He should be committed as mentally ill. He will soon be on par with Carter. And watch Clintoon explode, what an a@@
