Is South Carolina 'so gay'?

South Carolina is so Gay adThe majority of South Carolina residents are upset over an advertising campaign to attract homosexual tourists. The ad campaign was run in London for several cities. South Carolina was the only state with a role, and their ad said "South Carolina is so gay."

Oran Smith of the Palmetto Family Council notes those who heard the ad were surprised. "And it was a shock to everyone who heard about it, and the contract was immediately canceled and the individual who is responsible has resigned," Smith explains. A legitimate question is whether state tax dollars were used for the promotion. "Yes, this was taxpayer money, which was allocated through the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism," Smith adds.

State Senator David Thomas has called for an audit of the department, and Smith thinks that just might be a good idea. "There needs to be accountability to the legislature for the spending because they approved the spending," Smith contends. "And I think that every dollar that's spent to promote South Carolina should be spent in a way that's connected to South Carolina Values."

He points out that voters in South Carolina went to the polls and approved a constitutional amendment protecting marriage between a man and woman by a 78 percent margin. Smith believes it ought to be plain that residents of the state are not pro-homosexual.

"So there's a very strong feeling that the state law and state funds should not be going to promote the same-sex lifestyle -- and that contravenes the strong values of the state," Smith points out.

And once again the people are ignored.

The people weren't ignored. The ad people knew exactly what they were doing. Now the people they really work for can point at the South Carolinians who complained and wag their fingers at the “dumb” rednecks. This will only stop when the voters start kicking the elected officials out who support this kind of thing.

BINGO-it’s another testing attack against Conservatives and Traditionalists in the war for the soul of this nation. Sometimes instead of a low level “culture war” I think it would be easier if we just had a real war with these liberals where they’d loose..

Anyone who has spent any time in Charleston knows the Holy City has a large gay community - and has had one for decades. The rest of the state is not all that friendly for gays, except that in Atlanta gay community Clemson is said to have substantial (and quite hidden) gay community.

These sodomites are so clueless that they give themselves such a high profile. There is a backlash on the horizon that is so fierce and final that they surely know not what they do.

I guess you could count Folly Beach as a Charleston "suburb", but it is the "gay beach" mentioned in the promotional brochure. While not as bad as Key West, Florida (which is one of the largest gay communities on the east coast), Folly is rapidly becoming a gay enclave.

The last time I visited Folly - which I admit was over 20 years ago - the beach was almost gone from erosion. And the place was about a rundown as one can imagine. Gays “revitalized” Midtown and Virginia Highlands in Atlanta; perhaps they’ve done the same at Folly.
