Petraeus Gives Obama's Plan the Boot - Obama Says HE'S the Boss
The Patriot Room ^ | July 22, 2008 | Bill Dupray

Posted on 07/22/2008 8:51:19 AM PDT by Bill Dupray

Video. And Amateur Hour continues apace. ABC's Terry Moran asks Obama about what Petraeus thought about Barry's 16 month pullout plan. Obama breaks out the leisure suit, starts dancing, and finally says, "You know, I, I, umm, uhh, I mean, uhh, you know, well . . . Screw Petraeus, I'm the boss and I'll decide when the hell we're gonna pull out."

Well, I watched the video. While he does stutter and stammer and make an ass of himself, he never actually says the words attributed in the headline. Bad reporting.

It was your job to LISTEN. It sounds to me that you failed at your job. You had no intention of listening to them and I have no idea why you needed to go all the way to Iraq to NOT LISTEN to the generals when you could have stayed back on the South Side of Chicago and NOT LISTENED to the generals there.

When Petraeus rejects the plan, and Obama nevertheless says he’s going to decide what to do and when, that is telling the world that he will be boss. If he had used the word “boss” I would have had it in quotes. The headline is accurate.

I have thought the same recently. I have faith the American people can get through the next 4 years okay if Obama is elected, and maybe that is an experience we need to have. Don't want it, may hate it, but we may need it. He could take this country to new highs but he may also destroy the Democratic Party, I do not think he can destroy America.

This is only true if there is a house-cleaning at the RNC, with the moderate buffoons currently running (ruining?) the show replaced by those committed to conservative principles. And of course, we know that isn't going to happen because the moderates will never let conservatives have any true power in the party. It'll simply be the same scenario of Lucy pulling the football away as Charlie Brown is about to kick it - we'll get our hopes up only to have moderates sabotage any real change in Washington. We need to find a way to bypass these idiots, but I don't have any great suggestions other than a new party with different leadership that won't water down the message.

While I think what he was saying was total crap, he was playing it as a hypothetical in the context. IMO, you are playing the same game here as what we complain about everyone else doing. If you want to rip it for his timeline idea, knock yourself out. If you want to play it as he thinks he is in charge now, I personally think you are barking up the wrong tree.

I’m telling all of you, this guy is an empty suit. I don’t think he realizes how ill prepared he is. He’s actually starting to believe the myth concocted by those handlers of his, that he can be president.

I can’t believe that the American public is that stupid.

People will be voting against McCAin or against Obama. Therefore, he who has the higher negative rating should lose.

This indicates once again, as pointed out by Ann Coulter, why liberals should never be in the Oval Office, and should never be allowed near the levers of war machinery.

They-think-they-can-control-everything.

They are all socialists at heart, and think they can control an economy by regulating it down to the smallest detail. It has been tried everywhere, and has ALWAYS failed. Miserably.

They are all Generals and Admirals at heart. They think THEY know what should be done in a war zone, and try to micromanage it down to the nth degree. Every time they have been involved, American servicemen die and America is humiliated. Witness the handcuffing of the military by the liberal congress during the fall of Vietnam, the micromanagement of the Hostage rescue in Iran, and the absolute stupidity of their meddling and restrictions in Somalia.

Contrast that with the way Reagan and yes, both Bushes allowed the military to do their job. Sure, the ROE is restrictive and hated, and has probably been responsible for some deaths of American soldiers, but Bush hasn’t been picking out targets to attack.

I am not so sure now is that much different than the 1960’s for the GOP which spawned Reagan and the Reagan revolution.

I think what the conservative movement needs mroe than anything is that figure head to take it to the next level. One who is clear in thought and words, direct, plain spoken and can talk to the every man.

I ran the video. I don’t mind how he said it, pause, stutter, etc. But I don’t see how it makes any sense.

He says, paraphrasing, that
I don’t want a false choice between a rigid 16 month timetable or completely deferring to what the commanders on the ground suggest, as President Bush says he’s doing, that would be abdicating my job as Commander in Chief.

This is a complete misreading of current history. President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld (in his day) listened to our military. Then our civilian leaders decided. There was never any question as to who was in charge.

The Democrats want it both ways. I’ve heard them pound Rumsfeld and Bush for not listening to the military. Now BHO says President Bush is listening too much and is not performing his role as CIC. It’s clear to me that Bush listens, then decides.

Maybe BHO wants to decide, then listen. It may make for good politics, but it makes for poor decisions for our country.

But yack yack aside, what is BHO’s track record? He opposed the surge that is saving the lives of the American military and innocent Iraqi civilians. That was good Democratic party politics, but it sure would have been a disaster if he had gotten his way. (But US disaster would have been good politics too for the Democrats.)

It was interesting to watch the ABC News process. Moran smilled, led BHO to his seat, touching him on the arm. Bush referred to Moran (open-mike) as a major league ass-hole, and with good reason. But Moran and BHO seem very friendly.

I’m surprised that ABC did not just go with the BHO story. They think the 16 month timetable is significant, while BHO wants it to be no big deal. Clearly BHO wants to differentiate himself from Bush, wants all credit for his 16 month timetable, but also wants to avoid all backlash from a 16 month timetable. Wow. Why not just try to be responsible?
