I can understand Obama traveling to Iraq and Afghanistan to meet with the troops, talk to military leaders, a listen and learn trip so to speak, as the presumptive Democratic nominee and as Illinois Senator. Sure it is odd that he laid out his plans for Iraq and Afghanistan in an op-ed piece in the New York Times one week before he left, but I will not criticize him for that.
I also do not mind his traveling to Israel, our closest ally in the region, knowing full well that he must garnish more support from the Jewish community in America, who pay close attention to Israeli politics, to win the presidential election. I think it would be obvious that he would meet with Palestinian and Jordan leaders as well, in order to appear fair minded.
The problem I have with all these meetings however, is that he is acting as if he is President-elect. This could be part media fault part Obamas wishful thinking fault, but it is wrong nonetheless. We are a nation of voters, not slaves to the main stream media, and no one assumes presidency in this country, not even Obama.

The Messiah can do no wrong! Bow down to the New World Order!
Bow down my @ss!
While we can all hope that Obama's tour backfires on him; and while you're rightly distressed about Obama's antics; the fact is the body of your piece does not support your title.
All you really said is, the tour "backfired" on you (but then, for that to be true, we must suppose that you were at least on the fence about Obama in the first place.)
And, moreover, your comments essentially tell us that you're pissed about the fact that Obama's trip doesn't actually seem to have backfired yet for the general public, because the media are complicit in his beatification.
Bow down my @ss!
bears repeating
Wait until after Berlin to make a judgment. Right now, on balance, it has been a plus for Obama. The big media event will be the tens of thousands of Germans cheering him on. It will be a powerful photo op if all goes as planned.
Yeah kind of like Gobbels producing photo ops for Hitler!
You have a point. I am terrible at titles. Do you have a suggestion?
But do Americans really care if Germans like Obama. It is just so strange to me. Did the German chancellor travel to American to campaign?
Bingo. You get it. You deserve a good cigar.
I know...it’s absurd at best and insulting at worst!
If that happens, perhaps some video of thousands of Germans cheering Hitler in the late 1930’s might be in order for a comparison.
Maybe it hasn’t backfired yet, but it will for sure. Obama is so ignorant and inexperienced that it’s inevitible he will make a Huge Gaffe that will end any chance of him winning the presidency.
Not sure about this particular trip ... but I do believe a lot of this Obama-mania in general has the potential to backfire in the end.
The fawning press coverage. The European adulation of Obama. Moving the convention acceptance speech to a stadium, rock-star style.
I think a lot of this will start to rub a lot of Americans ... not just us conservative political junkies ... the wrong way.
With all due respect, I think the point that many are missing is the fact the we are in the dog days of summer, the only people following Obama’s magical mystery tour are the MSM and the few of us who are really into politcs all the time. Most people know he’s over there, but most people don’t give a sh*t, they care about the price of gas and groceries, the WOT and their vacations. The MSM can fall all over themselves during the evening news and later on cable, but tonight most of us will be watching MLB games or one of the CSI programs.
Can you recommend one? I have been known to smoke a good cigar from time to time.
Very well said.
I don’t know, ‘cause I don’t like cigars. I’ll ask my BIL. He likes $150 cigars.
Good point. Obama’s Magical Carpet Ride is under the guise of a Senate trip, while he’s really campaigning the whole time. He should have to pay for all of it out of his campaign funds. It makes me spitting mad that we taxpayers are funding it.
A little high priced for me!
Not if somebody sends one to you!
I’m not sure that your title is wrong. I think it is the headline that we may start seeing about this trip. Not much happened for him that was good. He gave some speeches that seem to have people yawning. Of course ~I~ think he’s an empty suit, but this trip seems to have put it on stage for the world to see. He just never looked Presidential on any of the stops that I’ve seen. He looked shallow and naive. And I don’t think that’s just my bias talking. I think more people are seeing through his BS. He’s falling in the polls, not rising.
If this trip was a big success he should be seeing a spike in the polls, but that’s not what I’ve seen. Rasmussen this morning, IIRC, showed him down slightly, McCain up a little, and belief that we are “winning” in Iraq up to over 51%.
He really is terrible without prepared remarks, and that’s starting to show. I would even say that George W. Bush is a better ad-libber than him.
Good news about Americans views towards winning in Iraq are up, and Obama’s poll numbers down.
That would we awesome...need my address??
Obama the Inept is providing so much material for the fall campaign ads on this trip that there is no need to go any further. He can't get through one sentence without stepping on the stuff Jesse wants cut off.
I’m working on the budget right now....
Just add a question mark after backfires.
This is all about Obama burnishing his statesman credentials and demonstrating his ability to act Presidential abroad. It is all about image and not substance. Most Germans dislike Bush so it is a good venue for Obama. And then there are the comparisons to JFK and Reagan who made memorable speeches and appearances in Berlin. Of course, they were already the President at the time.
More than likely the MSM will show JFK and Reagan in Berlin as the basis of comparison, which is exactly what Obama wants.
Just visit my website for conservative commentary...I appreciate the thought.
Not to worry. You will see Obama in Berlin in his campaign commercials all the way to election day.
How about:
Obama Tour Doomed to Backfire
So far, he has not made any major gaffe. His refusal to admit that the surge worked is perhaps his biggest mistake so far.

:-} You kidding? Besides his trying to take credit for what America’s fighting men and women accomplished, today he tried to take credit for defunding Iran by claiming his “committee” did just that. Only problem is he lied again. He isn’t on that committee. This trip is a treasuer trove to show Barack for what he is, an ill equipped, ill informed politician who lies at the drop of a hat.
Good one!
I think that statement about his committee membership is potentially devastating. You can pass off a lot of these as just mistakes, but in that case, he made it a point to emphasize his statement that it was his committee. By doing so, its going to be awfully difficult for his campaign to dismiss as a mere slip up. Rather, it appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead. It certainly puts a damper on the whole ‘Hope and Change’ routine, doesn’t it?
That one statement illustrates exactly what many of his detractors have said: the man simply tells people what he thinks they want to hear. The fact that he had the audacity to lie about something so easily verified just makes it look that much more obvious.
You have MUCH more faith in this country's media than I do..........
Ain't that the truth. Say what you want about Dubya, there's no argument that he's genuine.
Obama... Not so much. Even his supporters have to acknowledge that he says things he doesn't believe just to get votes.
Exactly right. And while it may not hurt him now because he has cover from the MSM, it will hurt him in the fall bigtime with the mushy middle when the Republican 527’ wrap his lies about his head in a thorn like fashion.
We have a whole generation who grew up on CNN, Hollywood and the rest of the ultra-liberal msm. They have absolutely no concept of what's fact and what's fiction, and they certainly have lost all ability to reason or use logic. They can only do what they're told and follow the crowd, which is led by the MSM and the "elite" Hollywood set.
The left doesn't care if Obama lies, it won't hurt him at al there. Where it will hurt is with conservative turnout and independents deciding which way to fall off the fence. My guess is Barack will not be the first genuine Marxist POTUS.
I like a little watercress on my Jewish support. How about you?
Yes, I know the type, they are democrats that vote like dummies ...uhhh...duuu....I have to vote for the Democrat.
There is a difference in this election, and that is that many of these Democrats are not anti-American, they wave their flag proudly. They may be turned off by Obama’s long list of anti-American friends and advisers.
yea yea, ha ha, my mistake!
The original source has been corrected.
“Even his supporters have to acknowledge that he says things he doesn’t believe just to get votes.”
Unfortunately they don’t and the MSM won’t acknowledge it either. Look at the gaffe today, when he took credit for a committee decision that he wasn’t even on.
