UN Gun Grabbers

Interesting read over at the Volokh Conspiracy concerning the UN's disdain for our 2nd Amendment. I've got just two quotes from the article here. I love the arrogance of this first one (we don't have to bow down to the UN? We're still free to make our own laws? Oh, Thank you, Mr. UN Poobah!)

“States remain free to have their own national legislation,” said Daniel Prins, chief of the Conventional Arms Branch of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs.
Here's another goodie. Stalin himself couldn't have said it better:
Citizens should only be allowed to own guns if they are given a government permit, and the permit should only be issued if there is a "good reason" for possession or or "genuine need." In particular, permits to own guns for self defense should not be issued unless the applicant proves that he is in immediate danger.
If you cherish the second amendment while looking upon the UN as the stinking dung heap it is, do yourself a favor and read the entire article, it's short and very well put together. http://volokh.com/posts/1216681864.shtml

Enjoy!

Well Bucky, there are over 200,000,000 guns in the hands of citizens of the United States. That horse already jumped the fence, and you ain't gonna get it into your stable without getting your head kicked in.

I do not look upon the UN as a stinking dung heap. A stinking dung heap is composting into fertilizer. The UN will never be useful.

I don’t think of them as the UN Gun Police. I think of them as little blue-helmeted reactive targets.

Off topic a bit and I paraphrase:

Yes,Nietzsche said “god is dead.” But dig deeper and you find he said and paraphrasing here: god is dead. Society has killed him.

This one isn't reactive, however.

Gallows humor is almost as effective as bathroom humor.

“The UN will never be useful. “

The UN is quite useful to those seeking to consolidate their power and steal our land, money, children, and freedom.

I only need four letters to express my ‘respect’ toward them: FU, UN.

(Technically, I know that should be ‘FY’ but I think you know what I mean.)

Edit my statement to end “The UN will never be useful to Free Men.”

Actually, they’re a Stop ‘N Shop for many useful items once they’ve been persuaded to take a dirt nap.

Well i guess free men could use their blue helmets for target practice??? Or is it poor taste to say that.

The theory sounds good. We're missing that first ingredient though, the willingness to use it against tyranny.

"We're missing that first ingredient though, the willingness to use it against tyranny."

True enough. The will t ostand up and fight for your life and liberty has largely been 'educated' out of the general populace. Most kids today don't understand the first principles of freedom - most of 'em really don't care. Gosh, that sounds familiar:

"I heard no mention of the loss of personal freedom... Apparently this was not much of a sacrifice. They couldn't have cared less."

William Shirer, "Hitler and the Third Reich: First Impressions", from The Nightmare Years: 1930-1940 (Little, Brown, and Co., 1984)

The difference this time around is that at least for some of us, the lessons of the history of the last century haven't been lost.

Blue helmets are not the same as the UN. Also, absent the UN, there would be no need to practice taking out blue helneted child rapists.

I'm trying to explain things to my oldest kid (4 years old) as she thinks up the questions to ask. I figure if she's old enough to start asking questions, she's old enough to hear the answers.

Right now, she probably has a better grasp on what our current government IS, and why this is a bad thing, than 99% of the Democrats out there.

We still have hope. But it isn't going to be easy...

Nothing worth the effort ever is.

I think the number of privately-owned is more towards the number of people in the country.
