America for Sale to the Highest Foreign Bidder
TheTownCrier ^ | Aug. 11, 2008 | TheTownCrier, Mike Cutler

Posted on 08/11/2008 2:06:36 PM PDT by AuntB

An article yesterday, 'Lost Sovereignity, Oil-rich Fund Eyeing Foreclosed US Homes', talked about how foreign money is now moving to scoop up tens of thousands of discounted foreclosed homes across the country.

I caught Letterman the other night when Donald Trump was on. He was saying since our dollar is devalued and everything we have is now a world wide bargain, foreigners are buying up all the choice real estate. He admitted he’s inflating prices to get his best deal, and they’re happy to pay it.

Today Mike Cutler brought another related story to our attention. We have done several pieces on the marijuana farms being cultivated all over our national parks and forests by well armed Mexican Drug Cartels.

Well, kiddies, there's a new game in town.

Headline: Dealers Turn Vineyards Into Pot Farms

Quote: "Authorities believe some of the buyers are living in Mexico and their vineyards are producing tens of thousands of illegal marijuana plants - a crop that could easily surpass grapes in value this year........in one case, drug operatives approached a farmer who didn't have his farm listed for sale. He resisted until, asked to name a price. He threw out a figure: $263,000 for 27 acres and no building. The buyer showed up a few days later and bought the property in cash,"

This is Washington State! Well, I suppose it might keep them off our 'public' lands. What will we do when there is no more private land except in the hands of foreign nationals?

This ain’t your daddy’s USA anymore.

Here's Mike Cutler's take on it.

"We then come to the second article that I have attached below, about how Mexican drug traffickers have taken to a new tactic of buying up precious land that had been used for the cultivation of vineyards to be used to grow marijuana within the borders of the United States!

There had been previous news reports about those same drug organizations growing marijuana in national parks of the United States and now, without adequate enforcement by the federal government, we are witnessing a continuing expansion of Mexican drug traffickers growing ever increasing quantities of marijuana within the United States!

With all of this ongoing madness, neither major candidate for the Presidency has been willing to address the issue of border security and the creation of an immigration system that has real integrity that protects our nation and honors those lawful immigrants who have abided by the laws of the United States and have made the effort to legally become part of our nation.

Just as I blame our government for the lunacy to be found in the one-sided relationship that exists between the United States and Mexico, I blame the citizens of our nation for the current state of affairs in the political process!

My dad used to tell me that I would teach people I encountered, how they should treat me. The first time he told me this, I was a bit confused, so I asked him to explain what he meant by that. He told me, "Mike, if you accept abusive treatment by anyone, you are encouraging that abuse. You need to quickly establish limits and make it clear that there are situations that are utterly unacceptable to you. By making it clear to those you deal with, you will force people to treat you the way you want to be treated!"

We the People must take that lesson and employ it with our elected representatives. We the People must make our voices heard! This is not a Liberal issue nor is it a Conservative issue- this is the way that all Americans must force those politicians who purport to represent us, to truly represent us!

The stakes are far too great for us to allow the status quo to continue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!"

1). The US has always been for sale to the highest bidder. The only difference now is that thanks to a declining dollar, it is cheaper for foreigners to buy. And thank God they are buying or we would have a 1930s style collapse on our hands.

2). Pot has been the #1 cash crop in the US for more than 30 years. And most domestic pot is grown by US citizens, not Mexicans.

BTW, huge amounts of meth are produced by Mexicans for sale to Americans. Recently a documentary discussed it.

AuntB, if it were just one front, I could look the other way. What we have is an assault on a number of different fronts. And the response to each is the same. Oh this is no problem.

The best example of this sort of foolish reflex reaction was when Japanese purchased the Pebble Beach of course in the late 80’s for some very inflated price. Within a decade they sold it for some fraction of what they paid for it. But the initial reaction to the sale (or to the sale of the Chrysler Building, etc.) was the same - hysteria. My question then is the same as it is now - what are they going to do, take it home?

Yes, we’ve been chastised for years about our unfounded fear of the ‘slippery slope’. Well, babe, it’s a freakin’ avalanche now.

Apparently you are completely unfamiliar with US history. Who do you suppose funded the US canal and railroad systems? How much did they costs as a percentage of GDP of the US at the time?

I think it is a darn tragedy that the Federal government has created a housing bubble. It is a further tragedy that the US is on the edge of an economic collapse.

But we are darn lucky that SWFs are stepping up to buy US assets, or we will all be selling polished apples on the street corner while wearing barrels.

It's ain't "bully" but it is a heck of a lot better than nobody stepping up to buy US assets. There's a word for that: Argentina.

AuntB:

If you are trying to stop foreigners from buying US assets, you should know that US corporates hold more than twice as many foreign assets as foreigners do US assets.

Tread carefully. Foolish suggestions tend to become foolish laws, which is how we got into this predicament in the first place.

No, it will be their HOME...not ours.

If you’re not concerned with this situation, why don’t you go do something that you care about? I’ve already lost my home to this invasion, but it was no big deal...right? Yep, just my imagination.

That’s the way I see it AuntB.

Change our holidays to Muslim holidays. Open our borders to 100 million poor unable to support themselves people in ten to twelve years. Allow tens of thousands of Saudi nationals the run of the nation. Set it up so nations like China hold upwards of two trillion dollars of our trade dollars. Finance the build-up of China’s military. Allow ours to continue to shrink. Allow China the right of selling itself to the world as a nice global partner. Sit here and watch China sell Mao and how nice the gatherings in Tienenman square are right now.

Gag me...

I could go on, but what’s the point. None of this is problematic.

If, if, if.....why does it concern you what I’m trying to do? I’m trying to get information out. I’ve never suggested or called for the government to do a thing except enforce existing law.

What are you trying to do? That’s the question you should ask.

Because, because, because...I suspect that you are NOT simply trying to get "information" out, but that you are actively trying to convince people to support legislation what will be INCREDIBLY harmful to the United States.

What existing law do you think is not being enforced?

And how did the foreigners cause you to lose your house?

The next line in that story: From The Southeastern Missourian, 8/10/08,
“The seller had no idea the farm would become a marijuana operation.”
Right. Someone shows up with $263,000 cash nearly every day don’t they? Perhaps when the farm and the money are seized the clueless seller will get a hint.

Yes, enforcing our laws is the problem. Add laws to not offend anyone. I prefer hangings. If you do the crime before midnight- you swing by high noon next day.

Imagine all the legal rights we would have in any other country?

Our border patrol, Coast Guard, and law enforcemnt types do their jobs, only to be told these folks have rights.

All this PC, MC, social engineering has done is to make us look like the- “Fools of World.”

It (the home shown as an illustration in the NY Post article on en masse investment in foreclosure portfolio, the Chrysler Building, or even the Pebble Beach golf course, for that matter) is not yours right now either. The identity of the investors who own, say shares of GM, is not your concern either. If you'd like some, buy some. If not, do not. The same applies to the proposed investment. If anything one large purchase by an investment group has the prospect of helping to end the decline in home prices by aggregating transactions and fixing the endpoint of the price decline. If you can't handle that, take a course in economics and read more.
