I like this Fox News article Report: Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to Resign in Plea Deal on this matter. The --only-- appearance of the word "Democrat" in the 24 or so paragraphs is in paragraph 19, which begins "Granholm, a fellow Democrat, has pared the case to two issues: ..."

I guess that's why Fox gets labeled as a far right wing conservative news source by the Drive By Media. Over at the Detroit Free Press: Kilpatrick pleads no contest to charge of assaulting police there is zero mention of about to be former Mayor Kilpatrick's party affiliation. But the Detroit Free Press does have a good website name: freep.com, so they can't be all bad ;).

In their defense, Detroit Mayor and Democrat are redundant.

I don't disagree that journalists would be more likely to list the party affiliation if it were a Republican, but you would expect reporters to mention things that are unusual, and it is less often that Republicans get caught up in such scandals, though not exactly rare.
