Sarah Palin: the All-American Girl

Sarah Palin has the opportunity to be the most beloved polarizing figure seen in politics for a long time. Move over George Bush, move over (dare I say it?) Ronald Reagan.

Let's look briefly at her accomplishments:

Hockey Mom.

Mother of Five, including a "special needs" child.

Married to the same guy for 20-some years.

She does not talk "family values": she practices them.

This infuriates the Democrats for two reasons. First, she does not have to be stage-managed and packaged to 'sell' her: she just has to be.. Second, she is everything that the liberals have pretended that the Neanderthal Republicans (and Christians!) have kept away from women all these years--and she did it without 'making the sacrifices' (codeword for "abortions"). This drives the leading feminist lights insane. When all the other women put two and two together, and realize that they have had abortions or put off children while young, and are now paying big bucks for fertility treatment...all unnecessary.

Hell has no fury like a scorned woman.

Experience: on the thin side, but for three things.

1) She's only running for VP. NOT the top of the ticket.

2) Even at that, she has executive experience. And not in a place where she can hide in a bureaucracy, either. Alaska's small size is an asset here: everyone in the state has heard of her, and 80% approve. She must have done a lot right: and Alaskans by definition tend to be an independent bunch.

3) Temperament. It is obvious she relishes challenges. How much real experience did Harry Truman have? And he didn't do too bad. He even made the hard call to use the atomic bomb.

The Shock and Awwww Factor.

Who ever would have thought that John McCain would be the one to shake things up and put a woman on the GOP ticket? It's the *last* thing the chattering classes were expecting. So there was no opposition research, no chance for the Dem instant response smear machine to pre-define her for the American people. Except through vicious attacks placed through their willing shills in the press, and the netroots.

And when she gave her convention speech, and looked and sounded...well, normal? Two responses from the people. The men said, "Damn, she's HOT." The women said, "YOU LIBERALS LIED TO US. ABOUT SOMEONE JUST LIKE *ME*." Shock and Awwww.

She's a Christian.

This was an inspired choice by John McCain. In one stroke, he energized the Christian Right, and sent the left into paroxysms of impotent fury. Just when they thought they had the Christians dead and buried politically...along came that woman! And yet she isn't someone lightly dismissed as Dr. James Dobson or a TV preacher would be. They can paint her as a fanatic, but her own words and mannerisms belie this. Witness the Charles Gibson ambush interview last night, when he tried to misquote her to make it seem like she was a religious fanatic sending men to die. ("on God's side"). She (without batting an eye) shoved the question right down his throat by quoting Lincoln "Let us not pray that God is on our side. Let us pray that we are on God's side." That is the exact opposite of the sandbag they intended. And just try to attack Lincoln, you bastards.

Populism.

There is now a cottage industry of Sarah Palin T-shirts, dolls, hats, and bumper stickers. Everything from the Christian Fish eating the Obama O, to I (heart) Sarah Palin, to "I'd Drill That!", and the statement of solidarity "I am Sarah Palin. Her story is my story." This eats up the Saul-Alinsky textbook of Obama as godlike figure commanding obedience while descending from on high at Harvard. Sarah Palin doesn't have to walk the tightrope of being "godlike yet approachable". She is approachable because almost every "normal" demographic group can relate to her directly.

But there is still one thing missing from the furor over Sarah, which I am suprised has not been more publicized.

She's a member of Team America!

I’ll be delighted to vote for Governor Sarah Palin for VP in November. She has more class in her pinky than snobama-messiah, Biden and the main-slime media have in their collective withered, prune-pit bodies.

My fave:

“”Let us not pray that God is on our side. Let us pray that we are on God’s side.” That is the exact opposite of the sandbag they intended. And just try to attack Lincoln, you bastards.”

ROFL. high fives all around.

I’m voting for Palin by absentee ballot. In case I die before the election, I want my vote to be counted!!!

GREAT analysis by grey whiskers.

Props.

Those of us with long memories (and long teeth) remember the daily savaging Reagan had to endure from the day he landed on the political scene until the last day of his presidency. Paul Krugman continues his assaults on Reagan even now; beating up on a dead guy is all that midget's really capable of.

So it will be with Sarah. The attacks will intensify, and they won't stop once she becomes VP. If anything, they'll be even more vile, even lower, and ultimately more anti-American.

Bottom line: Governor Palin and her family will need lots of protection, support, and askable-tellable love from the rest of Team America.

Dig in.

I read this while reviewing an old article of mine for something else.

Re-read your post #12 this thread.

How does it feel to be a prophet -- all but the after becoming VP, for that substitute losing the VP. But still...

Cheers!

When historical recollection and common sense have fallen into such short supply, their exercise only seems like prophecy.

Anyway, I wish a had been mistaken. Whatever else happens, Sarah has already had to endure too much from the vicious ankle-biters, jealous "feminists" and outright haters. I hope the goodwill of her millions of supporters can sustain her.
