That’s a different issue. The power to impeach the President is again a Constitutional authority. Congress cannot prevent an elected President from taking office nor can they preempt his candidacy.

Congressmen and women do not get a security clearance, yet we have had many Communists posing as members of the Democratic Party since the 1930’s, as well as one Democrat (Dickstein) who was a made Soviet agent in the 1930’s.

Other CPUSA members and/or covert members or well documented supporters include:
Bella Abzug - one day her Party membership will be made public if the records are not destroyed
John Conyers, Jr - a record too long to print. Key supporter of the KGB operation known as the WPC. (So did many others). Interested in which communist/socialist group his father belonged to in the UAW. Later bought out by the Reuthers.
Ron Dellums - there wasn’t a communist cause from many communist parties that he didn’t support - CPUSA, SWP, WWP, etc.
Charles Hayes (D-Ill) - id. CPUSA
George Crockett Jr (D-Mich) - id. CPUSA
Vito Marcantonio - CP mouthpiece in Congress(membership not publicly disclosed)
Charles Porter, Don Edwards; Burton Brothers - all well documented CPUSA supporters (Edwards hired CP members in his title insurance company)
Maxine Waters; Rangel; T. Weiss; Frank; Savage; Major Owens; Kastenmeier; Parren Mitchell (from a Party family); and many more - well documented communist front supporters and sometimes CPUSA overt organizations (their newspapers and the annual fundraising banquets, etc).

Also, a number of communists and sympathizers have been hired by these people, including by John Kerry, Conyers, Crockett, etc.

The story about how loyal congressmen have had to use subtrafuge to keep some other communist congressmen from secret materials will never be told. You had to be there to know about it. (been there; done that).

THere is so much more to this topic, but the only conclusion I can give after 40 years in this arena is that our security system is almost totally broken.

this title is misleading, there's no evidence that Obama was denied a security clearance. The article is speculation on how he could be denied a clearance, based off of some sketchy recountings of his background and record.

Having foreign nationals as family members is not a disqualifier, nor is a past history of experimentation with drugs.

The association with anti-government groups part is a little wild, claiming that Bill Ayers killed hundreds of people. Bill Ayers is a troubling association, and one that warrants more (any) serious debate in the media, but he is not a mass murderer. Sure, it's safe to say that Bill Ayers was a founding member of the Weathermen, and has remained supportive of their causes throughout the years, but does the author of the article seriously believe that somehow Bill Ayers personally killed hundreds of people, including police officers, yet walks free?

personally killed...doubtful. Hundreds, definitely not, Ayers bombings were actually quite amateurish and ineffective. It was his followers that actually succeeded in killing someone.

My actual point is that in all fairness to the author, Ayers' guilt is not in question. He has admitted everything that he has been accused of. Actually lamented that he had not done enough (NYT 09/11/2001). He is on the street because of a technicality.

As someone who worked as a consultant for a defense company, I, too, had to go through all of the checks, and also someone who studied those PowerPoint presentations on Security, all of the questions you raised are exactly what it covered in them.

I've also said that Obama would not receive any Security clearance.

If William Ayers himself were elected President, he would have total access to any and all classified information.
I also believe he could classify or declassify anything he wanted, as he is the ultimate classification authority, and could restrict or grant access to anyone for any classified material or program.

Recall that there were a number of people at the Clinton WH who couldn’t get security clearances themselves. Fact is, these ‘Rats couldn’t give a hoot about such “formalities.”
