Fast and Pray for a Day
Vanity | 23 Oct 08 | PP

This is my first vanity and I hope I've done it correctly.

There are several noteworthy critical events/turning points in this nation's history. Some of the more prominent ones are well known such as the War for Independance, the Civil War, the great depression, WWII, etc.

This election could well be one on those critical historical events. We are already a moderately socialist country and have experienced the loss or weakening of many freedoms that the founding fathers put in place.

This election will determine the speed/rate at which we continue in our movement toward socialism. We will either drive off the cliff at full speed into the Crevasse of Marxism; or we will slow down enough that we might (just maybe) make the sharp turn at the top of Socialism Mountain, and start heading back down towards the Valley of Freedom.

I know there are lots of prayer groups and I heard James Dobson talking about a high level prayer meeting he had with several people yesterday morning. I pray often for our nation, and that there will be a turning back to God. I pray that many will accept Jesus Christ as Savior, follow the ethics taught by Jesus, and live lives of character, honesty, integrity. I pray that our nation's leaders will follow Biblical principles in guiding the legislation and in making court decisions, because I believe THAT'S WHAT THE FOUNDING FATHER'S DID.

With this said, and considering the critical nature of this election, I propose a national day of fasting and prayer on the Sunday prior the election.

"FAST AND PRAY FOR A DAY" Sunday 02 Nov 08

I'm going to recommend to my church that instead of going out to eat after church that day, we reconvene to specifically ask for God's guidance in this election.

Okay, for those of us that are clueless, explain how not eating is going to help anything.

Skipping three meals will give you another 90 minutes to pray?

No, and neither are pregnant women, people that have physical problems.

In the Judeo-Christian tradition, the reason for a fast is to put aside earthly desires and, by not taking in sustenance, try to “bring your flesh under control” in order to better commune with God.

In short, it is a way to show God that “you mean business” as you entreat Him to act on behalf of you, of your family, or...in this case...your nation.

Wow, isn’t this sad. From some of the responses it sounds like I’m on the wrong forum. Thanks for the explanation, but if people on FR have to have it explained then we really are in trouble.
