I have a full write up on my website but I want to throw it up for discussion here. Did McCain even want to win? I don't think so and I think I understand why.
I have no way of seeing into McCain’s heart, but I imagine that when Barack Obama officially won the Democratic nomination John McCain felt like the race was already over. It must be difficult to stand against the tide of a historic event and I think being the alternative to the first African American president was not something John McCain wanted to be.
There are several black people I would have loved to see in the highest office in this country. Condaleeza Rice is the first name that pops into my head. Have you ever read about her upbringing? In a very heartbreaking moment for me personally, former Pittsburgh Steeler Lynn Swan recently lost to our truly awful incumbent Governor Ed Rendell. The governorship of a state like Pennsylvania would have been an excellent spring board to the Presidency. My fantasy never-gunna-happen pick is Walter E. Williams.
My own children, like Barack Obama, will be biracial. Biracial people face unique challenges because it is difficult for them to be accepted by both races. I hope that Barack’s success will help to make things easier on biracial people.
While I’m happy to see the race barrier crossed in Presidential Politics, I can not help but be pessimistic about his potential to be a good president. My next article will focus on my reasons for this, though I'm sure most Free Republic readers are aware of them. In the meantime, I hope I’m wrong. I hope he surprises me.
In a few short months, we’ll find out.
What a bunch of BS...you think McCain busted his hump day and night for months to lose? Not an idea worth posting and an insult to him and all of us who worked for him.
he should have won in 2000, he would have made a good president especially during 9-11, unfortuantely his time passed him by

I got the feeling that McCain didn’t have the fire inside to win. It was just like the Dole campaign. He deserved to be the president, but he needed something more then “it’s my turn”.
He wasn’t very good on the campaign trail or on important issues like global warming and immigration.
By the way, it's been a long time and I've forgotten, how do you change your vanity tag ... anyone?
Let’s be honest here. Obama is HALF WHITE....he is not a hyphenated American. In fact, Obama does not even come from slaves and I believe he is muslim.

McCain wanted to win, I agree. But there were certain lines he was unwilling to cross. For instance, McCain felt duty-bound to go back to Washington to work on the financial bailout. In hindsight that was a mistake. The public was broadly suspicious of the bailout plans — still are.
Obama’s main strategy was to tie McCain to Bush. McCain’s initiative, while patriotic in his own eyes, ‘made’ Obama’s argument. Practically the only people in favor of the bailout were — Bush & McCain.
It wasn’t ju jitsu on Obama’s part. He merely stepped back & allowed McCain to fall over.

And that’s why were in this mess. People want the ‘first name that pops into their head. Rice is a bigger RINO than McCain. There are thousands of good, conservative black Americans out there. How many more sell outs like Rice and Obama do you think we need?

My guy is Michael Steele, and I don’t even live in Maryland. The fools had a chance to send him the Senate two years ago and instead sent a me-too, garden-variety white guy nonentity Democrat that no one has heard a peep out of since the election, and who has done nothing. I on’t agree with every last thing Steele says and does, but he has his head screwed on right and he is a star.

Now that the election is over, I can officially begin despising Mcqueeg the RINO again. He cost us the election, and for it now we have Obamunism. Watch him become buddy buddy with Obama, Hitlery, Piglosi, Fat Teddy, and all the other far leftist ilk that will be driving this country into the ground for the next 4 years.

I’m sure it will be remembered that he’s half white next time a black man or woman runs as a democrat and they need a “full” black man to run. In fact, being half black gave Obama the option of claiming to be either. Who knows, maybe his birth certificate indicates that he’s white.
Curious thing about the whole racism issue when it comes to politicians. Not voting for a black democrat indicates racism. Not voting for a black republican doesn’t raise any eyebrows.
he’s not the only one. I’ve been of the opinion for a month now that McCain was more concerned about being seen as Mr Nice Guy than winning. His constant chastising of folks on the right, and openly expressing his admiration of liberals. I think he realized it was a loss and was going thru the motions, hoping to try again in ‘12.
