Today, Stan Lee, quite possibly the biggest name in comics, was awarded the National Medal of Arts. In the 1960s, Lee built the success of Marvel Comics on the backs of his famous characters: Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four, and The X-Men, among many others who are still followed today by millions of fans. Rather than mimic his contemporaries with stalwart, righteous super-heroes, Stan Lee created flawed characters who instantly tapped into the growing pains of his readership.
Known for his enthusiastic approach to narration, Lee was his usual chatty, sarcastic self about the award in an interview with the Washington Post:
"I wonder what took so long," said Lee, 85, in an interview Sunday. "Say 'He said it with a laugh' or I'll shoot you."
The award is selected by the National Endowment for the Arts and was presented to Lee by President Bush. According to the NEA website, The National Medal of Arts is the highest award given to artists and arts patrons by the United States Government. Nuff said!
More on Stan Lees contributions to the medium can be found in the thorough Marvel Visionaries: Stan Lee retrospective. Congratulations, Stan.
Ping!
Definitely congrats to Stan.
Well how nice that Bush has the time to do this when he should be pardoning Ramos & Compian
A great teacher, too.
What about Jack Kirby???
Good on Stan. Well deserved.

Can’t find the full video, but it’s here in pieces.
Hillary and Bill took Stan Lee and Peter Paul to the cleaners, lying and backstabbing at the highest level of politics. Stan Lee learned a hard lesson about dealing with democrats.
Mr. antigun gets a medal of arts......
whoooooptie dooo..
For some reason, the word “Excelsior!” always makes me think of James Thurber...
Not really. Jack Kirby created almost all of the Marvel Characters and was screwed worse than Superman’s creators by DC comics. Stan created nothing after Jack Kirby left Marvel.

I rather enjoyed DC’s righteous super-heroes. Though I feel Superman, Green Lantern, Batman, Wonder Women, Flash, and others were the best comic book characters, Stan Lee did a great job of making what I call “Joe Blow” super heroes who people can relate to. For me personally, I’d rather them be perfect and something to look up to, but that’s just me. Later DC began to trash there own heroes turning them into “Joe Blow’s” to, which was proof that Stan Lee had really made his mark.
I tip my hat to him, Spider man and the X-Men were fantastic stories with wonderful art. Good Job and well done!
Doug, in case you haven’t seen yet.

He's a libtard puke, but he had a helluva comic book company
'NUFF SAID.
Perfect Summation BUMP! ;)
Wheeeeee..........!
(I hope the picture does you justice:-))
This is me.

Hiya!
I will be seeing Stan Lee in court. In the SLM bankruptcy, there was substantial bankruptcy fraud. Without court approval and through the debtor in possession, assets were transferred to Stan’s new company, POW! Entertainment. Stan has a problem.
Good for you Doug, if democrats have a problem, I’m happy.
Excelsior, my butt. Here is the story of Stan Lee and bankruptcy fraud - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apFBsck2eK4
Not very conversational, but The MAN, never-the-less:-)
Here is part of Stan’s deposition. Watch as he admits to a campaign finance felony — laundering a $100K check. Hillary declared in her fourth amended report that Lee gave 220K to her campaign. He gave nothing. Despite being put on notice, he has not corrected the record. Hey, Stan, it’s illegal to launder $100,000 and hide the real donor.

Peter Paul wants to testify in her Sec of State confirmation hearing. I made a call today to the office of the minority counsel of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. A Hillary confirmation hearing may become very interesting. Hey, Denise Rich, is it true what you said in Los Angeles in 2000 that there was a couple hundred million dollars on the table for Bill to pardon your husband? That testimony would be interesting.
Doug, thanks for the refresher.
Her Heinous still needs to be served in the case, no?
When the judge finally allows it, we will get her served.
Just before her Senate confirmation hearing would be a great time!
Thanks for your tenacity, Doug.
Ah, I see you’re the strong, silent type, with a thing for long-haired redheads...
