From Don Young

Thank you for contacting me regarding the requirement that the President be a natural born citizen. I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with me.

Article II of the U.S. Constitution states, “No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.” No person can run for President or be in the direct line for the Presidency unless they are natural born citizens. The phrase “natural born citizen of the United States” has been widely interpreted to include individuals such as Senator John McCain who was born in the U.S. Panama Canal zone while his parents were serving in the U.S. Navy.

The natural born citizen requirement outlined in Article II is significant because it protects America’s heritage and national security. A number of law suits have been filed across the U.S. challenging Barack Obama’s citizenship. These Constitutional challenges are in the courts where they appropriately belong, and I have the highest confidence, that should a legitimate divergence from the Constitution be found, the courts will rule accordingly.

Once again, thank you for expressing your views on this issue. Greetings Moose from a Caribou :)

I thought I read today that we need to convince a Senator or Representative to take a stand on this issue. In their capacity it is they who have the power to force this issue and stand up for the Constitutional requirements.

Perhaps another person here can remember in which article posted today that this was reported.
