and after we do that, how about doing away with those pesky child labor laws!

Yea baby, that's the ticket.

I fail to see any correlation between child labor laws which has to do with minors, and basic business contract law, which has to do with adults who are legally capable of making their own decisions in life and entering into a contract of their own free will.

Applying the logic of some regarding contracts, lets just carry that logic to military service contracts (or any contract). When a young troop signs a contract with the military for service, should that troop decide that “man, this totally sucks” and they don’t like the tone of the Drill Sergeant, or don’t like the tone of their Squad Leader (forget Team Leader or Team Sergeant - these types will never get close to that vaunted environment - hopefully) then they can just tell them to shove it, and say “I quit” and “I shall breach this contract” cause you cause me “duress” or “I was under “duress” when I entered into this agreement with you even though the contract states that I declare I was not under any duress”.

Oh wait, they can already do that - nearly. Isn’t that basically what a Chapter-out is? A way out for Joe Sh*t The Ragbag to renege on a military service contract? No real repercussions, although his or her discharge will not state Honorable nor should it. Some might argue its a way out for the military too, to dump the trash. But I digress.

In fact, using the logic of some in this thread, the excuses run further; “I joined the military and signed this contract under “duress” because “BUSHITLER” screwed up the economy (lie) and I had no other option in life but to join the military, but you guys are supposed to make it pleasant for me and its all about me “traveling to Europe” getting an education just like the TV commercials you guys run”.

In fact many Liberals already make that exact argument; “the poor disadvantaged, mostly inner city minority have no choice but to join the military” etc. etc. even though its an outright lie. But since when did Libs ever champion truth.

The Western civilization concept of contract law is a pillar of Capitalism and some might argue one of the pillars of democracy. Its part of the backbone of the economic engine.

After all, the Constitution itself is a form of “social contract” whereas a group of people come together, signed a document, a Terms and Conditions Agreement per se, and agree to be bound by fundamental laws and principals thus insuring the rule of law, and not the rule of men. Thus when people like Obama cannot show evidence they are qualified for high office under this Terms and Conditions agreement, naturally those who have been injured by this “breach of contract” are irate and look for justice. It threatens the entire system agreed to by our forefathers. Further, when Obama himself regards the Constitution as “fundamentally flawed” then he is saying the contract is flawed and therefore null and void and there lies an even bigger danger. Who appointed him king to make such a declaration?

Naw, its easier just to do away with the concept of personal responsibility in this country. We are well down that road already and there is no putting the genie back in the bottle.

Just make new laws that say whenever a contract you enter into of your own free will becomes “inconvenient” or “cramps your lifestyle”, or causes you “duress” or makes one feel “oppressed” then the new “enlightened” laws will say you can just walk away from it. Screw the other guy you borrowed the money from - he can rot. It’s not about anyone else, just me. Right? BTW, anyone got an extra $100k I can borrow?

Neither should there be any bailout for any corp. that demonstrates irresponsible conduct.

I can hear the new Liberal Mantra now; De “Oppresso” Liber, for those under “oppression” and “duress” from their debts and contracts entered into by their own hand and free will... Just print more money and give everyone whatever they want whenever they want it. Simple! Magical! All problems solved. Utopia has arrived. No one has to work or produce, “The One” will magically make all things appear, fishes and loaves for all the proletariat! In fact we have already seen evidence of that mentality such as the Obama worshipers on TV declaring “When the Dear Leader becomes president, I won’t have to worry about my car payment, my house payment or any of my bills ever again!”. These tools actually believe this stuff.

We are well on our way to Socialism, perhaps even Communism where the State shall be your Nanny and your ruler. The State shall make all your decisions for you, protect you from yourselves, tell you what you can and cannot do, where you shall live, where you shall work, what you shall drive (it won’t be an SUV or a Harley - it will be a Yugo or a modped and you SHALL wear an approved helmet!) - or more likely you will be told to ride a bicycle or mass commute. The State shall declare what your worker code shall be, and who shall get preferential treatment based on “minority” or “special interest” status. The State shall tell you how many children you may have (ChiComs already ahead of the curve) declare that you may not own any firearms, etc. etc.

Already headed down that road.

Welcome to the brave new world. One devoid of all personal responsibility. And devoid of freedom.

Why not just make them slaves to the corporation they owe the debt to?

Or let them sell their kids into bondage to pay off their debts. Used to be a pretty common practice.
