Behind the scenes work is already underway to rename Chicagos Midway Airport after Obama becoming the Barack H. Obama International Airport.
Apparently, there are those in the city, especially on the Olympics Committee, that want this done before October 2009, to give the IOC a little more incentive to award Chicago the 2016 games (despite the fact that here in Chicago its already considered a done-deal well get the Olympics, and has been since November 4th). The Obamafication of Chicago begins with renaming Midway and is partially designed to remind the IOC, in as loud a voice possible, that Chicagos what gave the world Obama, and thus Chicago should be rewarded with the 2016 games, in The Ones adopted hometown.
Incidentally, for those wondering, Midway was named in 1947, after the Battle of Midway, but with so few veterans of WWII left, and so much for the city to gain by renaming Midway after Obama, dont think for a moment the WWII honor will stand in the way here.
With 50 states competing for federal dollars, and Chicago competing for the Olympics (with Mayor Daley obsessed about winning those games), renaming Midway is part of a concerted effort to keep Obama focused on Illinois above all others. Its also part of the Mayors scheme to privatize Midway airport which he has been trying to do for a few years now, as privatization will give Chicago $3 billion in rent and cost savings. Currently, several of the major carriers flying out of Midway have been holding up the privatization deal (because they are concerned privatization will mean higher rent and other fees). The renaming is thus part of a rebranding and revamping thats partially meant to force these holdouts to get on board. What are you racist? You dont want to stand in the way of an airport honoring our first black president, do you?
It also, no doubt, will enable a great deal of private fundraising, to convert Midway into an Obama shrine while funding all the fancy improvements the Mayor wants for the airport but currently cant afford. All those hopium laced contributions Penny Pritzker is so good at bringing in are expected to flow freely to Barack H. Obama International Airport.
Just watch. It will take a few months for the media to admit this is going on, but people we know in city government tell us this is the Mayors latest scheme (along with building room for the future Barack H. Obama Presidential Library and Museum into Chicagos Southside Olympics plans, to guarantee Chicago lands that prize, and not Honolulu).
Speechless ...yet again.
Look for a BHO Highway or a Barack Obama middle school in your area soon.
What ever happened to someone having actually done something before things were named after them?
They have to be friggen nutz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine the crime rate at the intersection of BHO Highway and MLK Blvd. Inversely proportionate to the property values, no?
Perhaps this would then mirror the renaming of streets after Martin Luther King. Everything becomes a desolate failure.
So fine, go ahead with that.
I guess there's no need for satire tags anymore, because reality has far too much mind-blowing satirical content.
Didn’t Daly have the runway tore up a few years ago.
Well, when his socialist policies collapse in a mountain of debt and inflation hits Zimbabwe levels and Al Qaeda has an office in Georgetown they can rename it Midway/Ronald Reagan International Airport.
I'm not kidding!
Exactly. I just called my hubby at work, he is a huge history buff.
He is gagging.
Take an airport named in honor of the great BATTLE OF MIDWAY and re-name it for the Obamanation????
That would be appalling!!!
There might be a chance to stop this, though — make it enough of a national embarrassment and even Obambi might insist that the name not be changed.
I’m always disgusted by naming or re-naming things after living politicians, anyway. All the Robert Byrd type stuff is particularly loathsome, since it is powerful pols using PUBLIC funds to honor their own fat a##es.
Rule should be that NO public funds can be used on infrastructure to honor ANY living pol — certainly not a pol currently in office!
For awhile I had hoped for the best this term for our own personal financial sake, but the more I see of this false idolatry, the more I hope this fool falls flat on his face. The guy has done NOTHING in his life to this point to merit any of this. Obamabots should be seen as nothing more than certifiably insane.
Or was that Meigs?
Planes crash there regularly? Or pay for cover ups ?
With out a doubt.
The property value is inversely related to the diversity, corresponding to the reciprocal of conservatism in the areas proposed.
I keep looking for Snappleface somewhere in the article, but I can’t seem to find it.
I’m going to make a sign and name the sewer in front of my house after him.
Isn’t this special... naming things for “O” before he’s entered/left office... I’ve got an idea... how about putting “O’s” mug on joke money (like a $3 bill)?
Naming an anti-military president-elect after heroes of the one of the greatest naval American battles in history?
Chicago has truly lost it’s marbles. To that poster with the Metro card with the magic Negro on it, sharpie the picture after using it.
I think I am going to throw up :(
Those in Chicago are required to make sure it doesn't happen.
It's happened before....
Is this for real???
I can't wait to watch that fight in Atlanta...
What’s the rush....do they expect him to be assasinated in the first few weeks?
Why not let him serve out his term, and then name some things after him.
Umm... didnt yall have a Cindy McKinney Blvd?
Is this a cult of personality thing? It's really getting beyond weird.
I'm having a hard time thinking that Chicago holds the "trophy of spilled marbles" while awaiting confirmation of my states next Senator. YET!
Bite your tongue, as bad as I expect he is going to be, Biden scares the hell out of me... I am apalled at this fawning over oBambi all around us.
I asked on a thread about taxing cow gas, what would be the on switch for a revolt? Which new tax or new law. How much will reasonable people take?
This would be it for me.
He hasn’t done a blessed thing yet. Well, this move does help the economy. After tossing gazillions of instantly obsolete brochures that mention the airport, ther will be costs to the airport authority to reprint every brochure, website, ad, etc dealing with the aiport.
Street sign-makers, too, will benefit.
. Say, maybe we can get our cities to rename every street after whatever resident moved to the street most recently.
hasnt done squat yet
AKA Kenya International
It’s the first left after Martin Luther King Parkway on your right, you can’t miss it. If you see the Robert F Kennedy Bridge you’ve gone too far.
I don’t know about that, but I found myself lost at the corner of Daisy Bates and MLK in Little Rock once. I knew them as 14th Street and High Street. I do find it fitting that High Street was remamed MLK.
In May 2000, a crowd of more than 2,000 gathered in Robinson Auditorium in Little Rock to honor her memory. At this event, President Bill Clinton acknowledged her achievements, comparing her to a diamond that gets chipped away in form and shines more brightly. In 2001, the Arkansas legislature enacted a provision that recognizes the third Monday in February as Daisy Gatson Bates Day. Thus, her memory (along with those of American presidents) is celebrated on that date as an official state holiday. There are streets in various towns in Arkansas, including Little Rock, which bear her name.
I wouldn’t want to end up in a “bad” neighborhood.
I can hear it now...
Dear can you pick me at 7 pm tonight?
I’m landing at the BO Airport.
Awwww, I liked the old name for it, Skid Road.
I had to look it up. I had never heard of her.
I'm sorry, you accidentally went to the machine that distributes food stamps.
