I wonder if any of them have thought about stopping Obama becoming POTUS?

Of course there are several ways not to seat Burris as the new Senator from Illinois. If just one Democrat Senator (or a staff member for same) bothers to do some research on FR, they've got the answer. See the first link, below.

Got to love it when the Dems mess up the works. “Change” turns out to really mean “more of the same.” They spent millions creating this perception that they were going to create this dreamworld, but already they are steeped in controversy and corruption charges. I get the feeling an Obama presidency might just be the thing we need to launch a 20-40 year conservative era. Clinton left a GOP controlled Congress behind, something that hadn’t happened in 40 or 50 years. Theres always this chance of a backlash if they get it wrong, and they always get it wrong.

They have a few options.

Since all the important work is done on committees, they could just not let him onto any committee. Nowhere in the Constitution is anyone given a right to serve on a committee.

Sure, he would still vote, but his vote is utterly predictable anyway.

They talk tough about blocking him, But you know they will all be as far away from the scene as possible, hiding under a desk. I doubt most of them have the courage to remain on the floor if he is outside the door.

The Democrats controlling the Illinois state legislature could have taken the appointment power away from Blagojevich and called a special election. They refused to do so because, if given a chance, the ignorant electorate might elect a ... gasp ... Republican!

So they decided to call Blago's bluff and go forward with their plans to impeach Blago, knowing that the Democrat Lt. Governor who would replace Blago would appoint an appropriate Democrat for the Senate seat.

That's still their plan, but now they have to rely on the Senate and the courts to keep Burris from being seated until they can finish impeaching Blago so that the new Democrat governor will appoint another Democrat for Senate. Of course, the new Democrat governor will now have to appoint another Black Democrat.

My question for our Illinois colleagues. I know that the Republicans hold a minority of seats in the Illinois legislature. Do they hold enough seats to block the impeachment from going through unless the Democrats agree to allow a special election for the Senate seat?

I'm afraid that in this case "change" means "change back" to the good old days when Jimmy Carter was running the country into the ground.

Barry Obama is Jimmy Carter only further to the left and with less judgment and experience.
