Rudy Giuliani Explains Republican Party's Failure in 2008
Crimson Politics ^ | 1/21/09 | Brian Kane

Posted on 01/21/2009 4:36:24 PM PST by Crimson Politics

Rudy Giuliani analyzes the reason the Republican party is losing in recent years and what it can do to enlarge it's base. Stressing the importance of big tent politics and under-emphasizing social issues. In any case, the economy is the main reason McCain lost, but other social issues have also created a bad stereotype of Republicans in general.

Take it from Rootie, the one guy who might have just been worse than McCain.

Hey Rudy, how’s that one delegate? Was he really worth the millions of dollars and cold-chicken dinners in Florida?

Looks a little bit beside the point.

Republicans lost on administration, on getting things done right and keeping stuff from falling apart.

When the Democrats screw up, we'll be back.

Well obviously President Giuliani is qualified to tell us how to win campaigns in middle America, so we should all listen to him.

There is a more than large enough Republican base to win back the congress and the White House if the party would actually run a candidate the base could stomach instead of the big tent, luke warm, Democrat lite and Ted Kennedy wannabe’s that have dominated the party for the last 8 years in.

Thanks for the article. However, most of the people on this thread won’t read it. They’ll just look at the title and start bashing Rudy.

Giuliani thinks we focus too much on social issues.

But we nominated McCain, who is supposedly America’s favorite Republican. He’s not particularly “right wing” about anything at all, except bringing the war to a successful conclusion which supposedly Obama wants to do too.

So I’ll take the opposite tack. We tried a guy who was embarrassed to be Republican. Next time lets find someone who is capable of explaining what Republicanism is and who is capable of persuading people to agree with him. Thats how you win elections the right way, by persuading people, not by positioning yourself in the middle of your opponent’s demographic.

Yet another political genius speaks. Court the fringe and alienate your base. That’s the ticket!

No vote for him and each of the others—not in my lifetime. None of them even came close except Duncan Hunter.

Meanwhile the left considered McCain a fascist and a Nazi.

The republicans lost for a simple reason. On way too many issues, they are completely indistinguishable from the ‘Rats.

Plus, they are as greedy and corrupt as the day is long.

I believe that in a time of strife, people look for a LEADER, plain and simple.

Remember when McCain did his “fight with me” speech? People went wild. Then he went back to acting like a wimp.

Obama won because he promised everyone, everything BUT also, because he appeared to be a confident, capable leader who could fix the problems facing this country.

We don’t have the wrong ideas in the Republican Party. In this election, we had a lack of a marketable, strong leader who could convince the public that he could lead us to a better America.

Gotta agree with Guiliani here. I am a Conservative, not a Republican. Rudy turned around NYC, a liberal bastion, with sound Conservative principals. OK, so he dresses up like a chick and could care less if 2 dudes marry. I have never seen it as government’s job to dictate morality so I could care less. The Republicans have made themselves to be the Christianity party, but last I checked the USA was a secular country and as far as I am concerned it should stay that way.
Talk to anyone who is not a thug and lived in NYC, Rudy did wonders for that city and it’s business owners. Love to see him do it with the rest of the country. As long as we keep our guns that is....my only drawback on the guy. And don’t forget, if they go after the second amendment, gun rights advocates can make a much better riot than inner city thugs.......
