Stimulus Package Trojan Horse to "prepare" USA for Socialized Medicine

Q: If there are things that are wasteful in the stimulus package, what would you see go?

A: I actually brought a list of a few that I uncovered here. ... There’s $1.1 billion on research to compare the effectiveness of medical treatments. It might be a nice program, but I’m not sure if I would consider that stimulus. There’s a $726 million for an after school snack program. Again, it’s wonderful, something I think maybe we should put in our regular budget, but I think this falls outside the stimulus. $400 million for habitat restoration, $200 million for fresh sod for the national mall, $600 mill to prepare, this one worries me, to prepare our country for universal health care.

These are just some of the ones I’ve been able to dig up in the last couple of days. I can tell you, it’s accelerating in terms of what the earmarks may be. At this point I’m still undecided which way I’m going to vote on it, but if it gets out of control, I’m here to try to protect the taxpayer, the best I can.

This “stimulus” bill is largely a stimulus of the Democrat party and it’s constituent organizations and people.

this cram-u-lots package amazes me.

They should be rewarding private sector actions, not paying off their favored buddies. As their “solution” will not work, it will “prove” to their followers that private sectors need government management.

This is something worth talking about. If I hear anymore about the Freedom of Choice Act (which isn’t even a bill introduced for Congressional consideration this session), I am going to lose my mind.

There is plenty in this stimulus bill to get riled up about, such as this.

Getting riled up about other phantom bills takes away from action on THIS BILL actually in Congress....

“Socialized Medicine” means people dying in line, waiting for tests and treatment.

It means Doctors and Hospitals closing their doors due to price controls.

It means drug companies halting research due to price controls.

It means the government decides who lives and who dies.

Truman's Fair Deal called for "universal healthcare". Here we are 60 years later and for the first time socialized medicine in America is a strong possibility. For some folks, its a foregone conclusion.

This is exactly why they are trying to rush this crap through asap.

When has the government, in recent years, ever spent everything for precisely what they said they were allocating the entire spending bill for.

This is an obvious lack of transparency. Another DemoRat LIE!

a real stimulus would be to give a million $’s to every tax payer who earns under a million a year and pays tax no over seas bank accounts.

Now that stimulus plan would right away help the economy.

Those claiming welfare, free lunches, food stamps etc do not get a penny
Those like Buffet do not get a penny but those in between and seniors who have paid into it get the million

The plan is much cheaper too and only goes to those who have worked for it

You know, I hadn't thought of that. Great point. Why didn't the enviro's bring that up before the 20th? Not to mention all the waste products (human and otherwise) that were expended in an area already overcrowded and straining environmental resources.

The FOCA is being piece-mealed - similar to Nationalized Health. I guess they hope we can't keep up.

Quoting the newspaper in Rochester, NY in my blog, LifeEthics, today:

* House member Louise Slaughter submitted the Prevention First Act of 2009 (H.R. 463/S.21). In the Senate it was introduced by Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The legislation focuses on reproductive and sexual health issues, and in some cases reverses Bush administration policies. It provides funding for comprehensive sex education programs, and none for abstinence-only sex ed. Other provisions include mandatory access to emergency contraception for rape survivors, and a requirement that hospital staff provide factual, science-based information on EC, including instructions that it doesn't cause abortions.

The bill would also force health insurers to offer equitable coverage for prescription contraceptives.

I agree, and at risk of sounding like a broken record, I urge everyone to register strong opposition to the stimulus bill by calling and emailing/fax/write members of Congress, especially the 41 GOP Senators who can filibuster this bill to a standstill.

THE STIMULUS BILL IS THE WORST SPENDING BILL IN US HISTORY.
Obama is the worst President in my lifetime if he signs this bill. He needs to be stopped.

Republicans need to FILIBUSTER the big-Government boondoggle monstrosity the Democrats and Obama are planning. Any Republican who looks at this is appalled: - billions in wasteful Government spending that has nothing to do with growing the economy but is 100% about growing the Government at the expense of our fiscal security and private economy.

Without a principled conservative opposition to the already excessive liberalism of Obama and the Democrats, the Republicans will have no credibility in 2010. Now is the time to take a stand and filibuster this bad bill.

There are specific demands that must be made:

#1 - filibuster against any spending that occurs after this fiscal year, and insist spending be done later in appropriations for next year; 100% of spending should be focussed SOLELY on this year and out-year spending should be in followup appropriations as conditions warrant. Why tie the USA to trillion dollar debt now for spending that will occur well after the recession is over?

#2 - no spending unless all tax laws are extended until 2013; in short, by raising taxes in 2010, the Democrats are cutting the economy off at the knees; they are killing, not stimulating, the economy; filibuster any bill that does not include delaying the increase in taxes.

#3 - No money for ACORN, for Planned Parenthood, for general pet projects that simply add to Government spending; filibuster any bill that has offensive, wasteful, non-stimulus spending; filibuster any bill that has pork and earmarks.

#4 - Filibuster any bill that is not at least 50% tax rate reductions, ie, real tax cuts; only tax rate reductions and/or direct tax cuts, such as allowing 100% expensing in 2009 of depreciable expenses, would incentivize the private sector.

Obama and the Democrats are perpetrating a hoax on the American people with their bad bill, and I am counting on Senator Cornyn to lead the fight to expose it.

Well in our system it’s the insurance companies who decide who lives and dies. Or your bank account.

But there’s more than one version of Socialized Medicine. For example, Hong Kong which has been consistently ranked as one of the freest economies in the world runs a huge Socialized Medicine System. What this does is put a natural downward pressure on prices because a private company would have to offer a better service to justify the higher price.

From Rep. Tom Price's (GA-6) website:

Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement regarding the inclusion of $1.1 billion for Comparative Effectiveness Research in the Democrats’ misnamed “stimulus” package. The provision provides the cornerstone for a national government-run health care system.

“Congressional Democrats are seeking to use an economic crisis to advance their goal of a massive federal health care bureaucracy,” said Rep. Price. “There should be no confusion: Comparative Effectiveness Research funding is the first step to creating a national bureaucratic health care system. Producing a uniform standard for national health care means health care decisions will be made by the government, not doctors and patients. We must fight for patient-centered care and ensure that those most affected by health care decisions continue to be allowed to make them.”

Next week the House of Representatives will consider the Democrat so-called “stimulus” bill that will, among other provisions, establish a Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER). This new health board will establish a permanent government rationing organization prescribing care in place of doctors and patients. The draft report language accompanying the appropriations health portion of the bill clearly lays out the Democrats’ plan for their new CER board:

“By knowing what works best and presenting this information more broadly to patients and healthcare professionals, those items, procedures, and interventions that are most effective to prevent, control, and treat health conditions will be utilized, while those that are found to be less effective and in some cases, more expensive, will no longer be prescribed.”
