Hollywood’s stylish starlets will descend upon the Kodak Theater for the 81st annual Oscar Awards on February 22, 2009. The red carpet will be emblazoned with media and photographers taking photos of actors and actresses, as fashion columnists frantically write down “who is wearing what.” The goal of the stars? To make every media outlet’s Best Dressed List. That being said, what can we expect to see on the red carpet?

I could care less. This is just another year that I will be boycotting the Oscars, the Grammies, the Emmies - all those self-congratulatory shows that also serve as a vehicle to lecture the viewers.

I remember that Oscar night was BIG TV night at the house when I was growing up. Mom would make popcorn and let us stay up to see what picture had won. Mom and Dad didn't have to worry about words getting bleeped then or stars and movies paying hommage to perverted behaviors.

Sorry MG, this is not directed to you, but who gives a flying crap. The country is going to hell in a handbasket and I’m supposed to care what these no talent, overpaid, useful idiot tw_ts are going to wear.

Some of us like to look at pictures of fashionable clothes. How does that hurt anyone else?

So much for cutting back. I guess budgets are for the “little” people and bling is for celebrities. I know that lots of that finery is lent to them but it is hypocritical nevertheless.

How does my opinion stop you from doing that? I was expressing my opinion that these people are the last thing in the world I’m concerned about. All of these Obama lovers can go to heck.

Well done! I couldn’t express my feelings on this any better than that!

I always post on threads about subjects that don’t interest me, too.

Agreed. If you focus on crap all the time, you’ll just get more of the same. What’s a little distraction hurt anyone?

I understand how you feel, beaversmom. I often feel that way too. Generally, though these threads are a welcome respite from subjects that can be difficult.

I think sometimes we just need a bit of a break.

I’m doing everything I reasonably can about everything that’s wrong with the country. When the photo-galleries come out after the Oscars, I’ll go through them and look at the dresses. Then I’ll go spend $3 apiece for bigger maternity dresses at The Salvation Army store!

Well I shouldn't have invaded the thread. Normally I don't. It wasn't meant to be directed at the people that do find interest in such things, but rather just me expressing that my mind is definitely on a trillion other concerns.

I know. I'm trying not to think about them. :) I just sent an email to Kennedy, Kerry and Neal regarding HR 200. The list of issues that need our attention grows every day. Oy.
