Good friend of mine in the Navy back in the late 1970’s was from Elkhart.

This doesn’t surprise me....(chuckle)

DId ANYONE in that “town hall” meeting ask Obama about the “new” energy policy that is sure to kill off the RV, Elkhart’s claim to fame?

I went through Elkhart about five years ago. Boy, that city was a run down cesspool. Looked like the west side of Chicago. No wonder Obama chose that city to try and drum up support for his plan.

Oh, don't be such a doom-and-gloomer. I'm sure Obama's Department of Brilliant Ideas will come up with a solar-powered rechargeable AA "green" battery that will eliminate the need for massive amounts of gasoline or diesel to power the RVs.

Hope and Change, man! ;-)

Obamachev is going to invent an eco friendly electric RV with a range of 100 feet. It can be parked in your driveway, however it’s illegal around here.

The town of Elkhart may have to be sacrificed to be saved. Yet through their suffering....their pain, others may avoid the trap and honied words of the liberals as they lap their ears with the promise of a free lunch.

Well the main problem with Elkhart is that its whole reason for being is the RV industry. Plus, it is also known in the region as little Mexico, for the number of immigrants that flock there during harvest season.

It is a city that gets no attention unless a politician needs to keep their job or to take over someone else's.

If you will all remember, this is the city had the 10 commandments on city property until the ACLU sued them for the removal.

Gallup: 58% disapprove of GOP’s handling of stimulus

1:50 pm on February 9, 2009 by Allahpundit

Commenters have been kicking this around in Headlines, trying to figure out how the GOP can be taking a beating when big majorities favor more tax cuts in the bill and less spending. My guess: A combination of Hopenchange fee-vah among the public and the fear that something big needs to be done soon, in whatever form. CNN’s out this morning with its own new poll showing that slim majorities support the bill — 54 percent overall and 51 percent of independents — but 76 percent approve of Obama.

He got high marks on the economy in Gallup’s poll, too. If this were being sold as the Harry Reid/Nancy Pelosi stimulus package, which is what it is, it’d be dead on arrival, but put the Messiah on TV warning about the end times if he doesn’t get his way and it’s just enough to eke out a majority in favor. CBS and USA Today recently found 52 and 51 percent support for the bill, respectively; after tonight’s primetime sermon, expect that to bump up to 55 or more.

Wow. Before making any determination as to “the dumbest town in America” I suggest you do at least a little homework.

I listened to all of the town hall meeting. I heard one elderly lady who bought into the Obama hype asking if the support check will be sent directly to Elkhart. I heard another Obama cool-aid drinker asking that HIS check be sent directly to his mailbox. There was a small business owner trying to cash in on the go green fad and an 8-year-old who was coached to ask what Obama will do to save schools. But I also heard a woman call him to task for nominating tax cheats for his cabinet.

So, even in this closely orchestrated and scripted event, there was still someone intelligent enough to work her way past the thought police and put a tough question the big O.

As for your inept assessment of the RV industry, perhaps you should go a little deeper than "I don't see as many RVs in my town, so the entire industry is dead." Higher gas prices actually brought an increase in RV sales, as camping is seen as a more affordable vacation method. Check it out, it's documented. The current economic downturn in the RV industry didn't become more than just a cyclical lull until the credit crisis started in October/November.

I have a feeling Elkhart would nominate Old Glory Radio as the dumbest radio show in American, if anyone had actually ever heard of it.

Um, no. Recreational Vehicles are just that. They do not have to be self-contained, or self-propelled. They include Class A, Class B, Bus Conversions, Class C, Travel Trailers, Campers, Pop-ups, 5th-Wheels, Big muther truck conversions (also known as Toterhomes), and the like.

Trust me, I was in, and have family that is still in, the R.V. industry.

And she was booed by the numb-nuts of Elkhart.

Two minutes later these same numb-nuts applauded when Hussein told them..."A tax-break for working people is spent directly into the ecomomy but if rich folks get a tax break they will just stick the money somewhere and it won't go into the economy."

Numb-nuts too stupid to realize that they've just been lied to by their leader (who obviously knew a priori that they are too dense to know where investments in the private sector come from).

Yes, a woman there called him to task for nominating a bunch of tax cheats and first he suppressed the booing with “naw, naw, that’s a legitimate question”, then explained to the woman that there were a few bad apples among hundreds of his appointees, and it would take him some time to completely CHANGE Washington. Maybe that meant he didn’t appoint ENOUGH tax cheats. Double ugh.

Here is a fairly even-handed article...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2181804/posts

Selling the Stimulus in Elkhart, Ind.

"The president took eight questions in a back and forth that lasted just under 40 minutes. One of them drew boos from the crowd when a young woman who identified herself as Tara said, “You've come to our county and asked us to trust you, but those that you have appointed to your Cabinet are not trustworthy and can't handle their own budget and taxes."

*snip*

"Obama worked the rope line briefly before leaving to fly back to Washington D.C. Many in the crowd wore Obama t-shirts and hats, though outside there were a few signs of dissent. A small group of protestors waved pink pig-shaped signs that read, “Obama Pelosi Reid = Pork” and “Don't Enslave Our Children with Your Pork.”"

Rush said today that Elkhart the center of RV manufacturing was devasated by the Democrats including Obama who have demonized RVs as gas guzzlers owned by evil, greedy families actually trying to take a vacation away from life’s troubles.

Now here comes the Messiah, just like the Mafia mob enforcers, who after getting a businessman hooked on gambling comes to his business to “save” him, by making the mobsters a “partner” in the business where they eventually bust out the business and leave the businessman to hang out to dry.

You're confusing genuinely dumb people (Elkhart) with highly intelligent people who cling desperately to incorrect beliefs in spite of all the evidence right in front of their eyes (San Francisco).

The change Obama now seeks is a change in the definition of terms.

spending on welfare, counseling, unemployment comp is investment.

Receipt of free money is now a job. Well, almost free, just give the devil your soul and pride.

Not getting his hands dirty and letting others do the dirty work of harrassing Bush appointees is bipartisanship.

No one in our wonderful US media mentioned that the whole Michiana area (Elkhart, Bristol and Goshen) have been overrun by illegal aliens from south of the border.

20 years ago Goshen was a lily white town, you would see plenty of Amish buggies and good old fashion food. Now you see taco joints, graffitti and low rider trucks.

If anyone wants to know why the unemployment rate in Elkhart is so high all they have to do is look at the influx of illegals.

Live in Elkhart all my life. Just some history so you know more than what the media showed. And I was there praying to ask a GOOD question. Elkhart is more than RV’s, it's the number one manufacturing county in the country. Musical instruments, pharma, you name it, very entrepreneurial. And almost no unions! We make it happen with hard work. Also, very conservative...always has been. Republicans usually don't have to campaign, just make it to the election. There is so much more than RV’s in this area. Now, that fiasco of a town hall. Yes, there were a lot of worshippers there. And there were many there like me who wanted someone, anyone, to ask a tough question. Ask what putting in a road is going to do to put a factory worker back to work. Ask why Pelosi thinks buying rubbers are going to put someone back to work here. Come visit and you will see that there are many more than the couple thousand kool-aid drinking government will save me types here. Very conservative, and fed up with Washington, that's what you will find. I think you can go to that map that shows red/blue by county across the US and start calling people stupid. No one uses common sense in Washington. It's frustrating.
