I don't think it's going to be like what is offerred in Chile, because this piece is basically saying that you won't be able to have other coverage, without facing significant penalties.

I made my comments - pressed "post" and found the thread was locked. So here's my reply anyhow...
Disability is the new welfare - without pesky social workers. It's sad because the cheats are taking away the resources and care from people who are really disabled.
I knew a person once who told me all 12 "kids" (ages from late twenties to early fifties) in the family were on disability and received a social security check every month. That means some members of that family could receive social security for over 60 years. To add insult to injury, this person was told by one of the brothers to "use mental" because it's hard to disprove.
I can assure you, most of these babies this woman had will be receiving social security checks for longer than you or I will be alive - or until they bankrupt the system. At which point they'll get jobs - and the truly disabled - and seniors to old to work - will die.
Why would they direct you to the ‘state’..when this is a federal bill affecting all states? AARP probably helped write this homicidal part of the bill because their healthcare program is ‘losing’ money on ‘old people’.

I appreciate your saying you are kidding, but I hate to break it to everyone who is posting on this blog that nowhere in this bill about the health boards does it say it is only for senior health. IT IS FOR ANY TREATMENT AT ANY AGE! If you are a thirty year old woman and you develop a non-chemo sensitive tumor and have the genes that predispose you to breast cancer your life expectancy with treatment is only about 30% over 5 years. YOU WOULDN’T QUALIFY FOR TREATMENT BECAUSE OF THE COST VS LIFE EXPECTANCY RATIO THE BOARD WILL USE. Do not ignore the potential for the government to reach into our health care decisions for ourselves and...our...children.THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT SENIORS

It seems to me that a few years back, there was some division among the AARP members. It was something to do with where their membership fees were going, and to what issues they were concentrating on, candidates to support, etc.. I wish I could remember what the issue was. I do remember reading that a number of new people who were retiring were more activist (and very liberal!). There was a number of them who were more conservative.

In Britain you can get private pay but here, it would be disallowed except of course for the ruling grandees.

I have cancer, ovarian, with a 5 yr life expectancy of around 30 Percent. With salvage chemo, people can get four or five chemos with each relalpse, I can get a few more years and these are pretty good ones from what people tell me.
I think that without that option, I am a goner. Now who has the right to tell me to “accept” this at this point?
I have paid insurance premiums since age 18, never went to a doc till six months ago, never sick, only retired at 67 because of the cancer and will work again.
Who should tell me it is not cost effective for me to be alive to see my grandchildren, help my children, comfort my husband and see another beautiful day.

plus for young people. I suspect that premies won’t be treated if below a certain weight. And children with CP or retardation or autism won’t be treated for life threatening illnesses. And pregnancies past two probably won’t be covered.

My treatment has been the object of a study Hopkins did for the govt. It is not cost effective in the short run, but is in the long run {better survival at greater expense}. When I saw that study my heart sunk. Johbns Hopkins is helping the gov determine “cost effctive”
The short run is what the gov wants,,they don’t care if I get three years or one year or five years. They just want to cut out the costs for a person who is retired. They simply are inhuman.
They will find a way to get treatment.

Doesn’t matter if you have money to pay for doctors, there will be no doctors, just like in Canada. This kind of medicine drives them away. Not only that, but doctors in Canada are overwhelmingly non-white immigrants, yep just who you want making a decision whether you live or die.
