SNIPPET: “This was just posted to — where else? -—
http://www.archive.org/details/Jihad-in-Turkistan-Middle
It’s an old video, but the online jihadi who posted it to share amongst his forum friends probably did the unintended service of reminding us of the continuing jihad in Western China. Uighurs represent a sizable portion of the foreign jihadis picked up or killed in Pakistan and Afghanistan (there were numerous ones profiled in the jihadi hagiography, Martyrs in a Time of Alienation)
Regardless of how “well” things are going for the jihad in Western China, I think it’s safe to say that we have no idea how it’s going. The Communist Chinese government is never going to honestly report on it, and there are few, if any, independent journalists working the region.”

“Has al-Qaeda Picked a Leader for Operations in China?
Publication: Terrorism Focus Volume: 5 Issue: 41

By: Waliullah Rahmani
SNIPPET: “Since al-Qaeda and the Taliban leadership shifted their operational bases from Afghanistan to Pakistans North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), many new groups claiming to be linked to al-Qaeda have emerged. On November 16, a self-proclaimed al-Qaeda spokesman named Muhammad Uighuri claimed that Osama bin Laden has appointed a leader for a previously unknown organization called al-Qaeda in China. Uighuri said the new leader of al-Qaeda for China in general and for Xinjiang province in particular was a Chinese citizen named Abdul Haq Turkistani (Tabnak News Agency, November 16). Despite unsubstantiated claims by Chinas security services and Foreign Ministry, there is little proof that al-Qaeda has ever engaged in active operations within China.
Uighuri added that Abdul Haq Turkistani was appointed by Osama bin Laden in person and was already based in Xinjiang province (Pajhwak News, November 16). Al-Qaeda spokesmen say that Abdul Haq Turkistani was also appointed to lead a group called Hizb-e Islami Turkistan (Turkistan Islamic Party -TIP) (Pajhwak Afghan News, November 16).
Though some claim TIP is another name for the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), no evidence has been offered to support this claim. ETIM is a separatist Islamic radical organization that seeks to form an independent Islamic state in northwest Chinas Xinjiang province.”

“Report on the Jihad in Northwest China”
SNIPPET: “The website www.eastrenturkistan.net (hosted by Yahoo! in California, USA) recently posted a short report on the jihad in “East Turkistan” (i.e. Xinjiang province in northwest China, which has a large Muslim population).
The report notes that this information is being posted in response to questions from Muslims from all over the world about the situation of the jihad in that region. It further says that the jihad in East Turkistan is at a stage that requires discretion, and therefore the report includes only information already reported by the international media.”

Good to see that no matter how bad the global economy is that al Qaeda is willing to throw a start-up out there and hope for the best. They probably could get a grant from Comrade Obamsky’s never-ending rescue and recovery flow of freshly printed if soon-to-be-worthless money.

Thank you Jet Jaguar.
I doubt the veracity of this organization’s existence. China is in active connivance with the Islamists. It was less than 2 days ago that the CCP signed an agreeement with Jamaat-e-Islami of Pakistan. While there have been Uighur members who trained in Al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan, the Uighur are fundamentally very progressive compared to the Al-Qaeda ideologues.
I see this as China’s attempt at equating the Uighur freedom movement with terrorism.
Thank you for your feedback MimirsWell.

Curious, that is.”

SNIPPET: “White House lawyers are refusing to accept the findings of an inter-agency committee that the Uighur Chinese Muslims held at Guantanamo Bay are too dangerous to release inside the U.S., according to Pentagon sources familiar with the action.
This action — coupled with the release of previously top secret legal opinions on harsh interrogation methods — demonstrates the Obama administrations willingness to ignore reality.
President Obamas decision to close the terrorist detention facility (known as Gitmo to the military) was made despite Bush administration determinations that there were no realistic alternatives to it.”

“BREAKING: White House Overrides FBI and DHS on Gitmo Release”
by Jed Babbin
04/30/2009
SNIPPET: “Moving quickly to release Chinese Uighur terrorists into the United States, Obama administration officials have — for the second time — overridden objections of federal agencies responsible for national security.
The first time — as I reported on April 20 — the White House overrode the inter-agency panel it created from all the national security agencies to review all the cases of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners. That panel found that the seventeen Uighurs — members of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement captured at an al-Queda training camp in Pakistan — were too dangerous to release in the United States.
Now — according to a federal agency source who requested anonymity — the White House has also overridden opposition to the release from both the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.”

“Chinese Terrorists Release in U.S. Imminent, No Answers From Holder”
by Rep. Frank Wolf
05/05/2009
Should foreigners picked up conducting terrorist training with Al Qaeda and subsequently held at Guantanamo Bay just be released into our communities, no questions asked? Believe it or not, it could happen. And soon.
The Obama administration is ready to release a number of Chinese Muslims, known as Uighurs, held at Guantanamo Bay since 2002 into the United States, according to several recent press reports.
Information I have received, however, indicates that the 17 Uighurs being held at Guantanamo may be more dangerous than the public has been led to believe. Both the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have reportedly raised serious concerns about the release of the 17 detainees, who are said to be members of the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement, a terrorist organization affiliated with Al Qaeda.
To be clear, we are not talking about transferring these folks to prisons in the United States. They would released, free and clear. “

“Obama’s Gitmo-to-Va. Uyghur Plan Hits A Wall: Jim Webb”
By James Gordon Meek
SNIPPET: “But we reported in The News today that the TIP, who ran the Afghan camp, released a jihad video last month in which they praised Al Qaeda-in-Iraq and the Uyghurs’ former Afghan hosts, the Taliban. The video was released through an Al Qaeda-affiliated Web site, Al-Fajr, and includes clips showing “mujahadeen brothers” blowing up U.S. military Humvees. The Uyghur jihadis “will cause China to experience what America experienced in Iraq and in Afghanistan,” a narrator promises, according to a SITE Intelligence Group translation.
It also probably didn’t help when Obama’s Treasury Department designated the group’s leader, Abdul Haq, as “a member of Al Qaeda’s Shura Council” on Apr. 20.
TIP’s praise for Al Qaeda in its video, “Persistence and Preparation for Jihad in the Cause of Allah,” was in some way payback to Osama Bin Laden’s deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri, who has mentioned the Uyghurs’ plight in China’s East Turkistan region five times in his tapes since 2005, according to IntelCenter. East Turkistan has been included in the context of major jihad struggles Zawahiri discussed, such as Somalia and Chechnya.”

“Senator Jim Webb doesn’t want Guantanamo prisoners brought to U.S.”
BY JAMES GORDON MEEK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

Bam to keep military tribunals for Gitmo prisoners, but with protections
WASHINGTON - A key senator Sunday denounced plans to settle a group of Guantanamo Bay inmates in the Virginia suburbs as a video surfaced showing the detainees’ cozy ties to Al Qaeda.
“They accepted training from Al Qaeda and as a result they have taken part in terrorism,” Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) told ABC’s “This Week” Sunday. “I don’t believe they should come to the United States.”
Webb was referring to a half-dozen Gitmo Uyghurs, Muslims from China, who were mostly nabbed fleeing a terror training camp in eastern Afghanistan during the U.S. invasion.”

“Uighurs: Sometimes, the Obama Friday Night Bad News Dump Is Bad for the Left [Andy McCarthy]”
SNIPPET: “The Obama Justice Department told the Supreme Court this evening that the Uighurs have no right to be released into the United States.
The Uighurs, Chinese Muslim detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, received terrorist training at al Qaeda affiliated camps (from an organization formally designated as a foreign terrorist organization under U.S. law) and were captured after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. They are the Left’s combatant cause célèbre. The military took the incoherent position that they were trained al Qaeda terrorists but that their real beef was with China, not us. Thus, the federal courts have held that they are not enemy combatants. The government has been trying to relocate them for years but no country will take the remaining 17 other than China, where our treaty obligations arguably forbid us from sending them because there is reason to believe they’d be persecuted.
Of course, it’s one thing to say that they are not enemy combatants and should therefore be released. It is quite another thing, though, to say that they should be released into the United States (which, because of their terrorist affiliations, would violate federal immigration law).”

“U.S. opposes Uighurs plea”
Friday, May 29th, 2009 5:27 pm | Lyle Denniston
UPDATE 9 p.m.
The Obama Administration urged the Supreme Court on Friday to turn away the plea by 17 Chinese Muslim Uighurs for release from Guantanamo Bay for settling temporarily inside the U.S. The U.S. Solicitor Generals brief in opposition in Kiyemba, et al., v. Obama, et al. (08-1234) can be downloaded here. Although no longer considered enemies, their continued confinement at Guantanamo is constitutionally valid, the brief asserted.
The Uighurs, Solicitor General Elena Kagan wrote, have already obtained relief. They are no longer detained as enemy combatants, they are free to leave Guantanamo Bay to any country that is willing to accept them, and in the meantime, they are housed in facilities separate from those for enemy combatants under the least restrictive conditions practicable.”

GUANTANAMO BAY PRISON CAMPS
“Some Guantánamo detainees to get laptops”
BY CAROL ROSENBERG
SNIPPET: “GUANTANAMO BAY NAVY BASE, Cuba — These captives already get to order fast-food takeout from the base and have access to a phone booth for weekly calls. Now some 17 Uighur Muslims awaiting a nation to grant them asylum are about to go high-tech, with laptops and web training.”
SNIPPET: “Attorney General Eric Holder said some could come to the United States for resettlement, triggering protests from members of Congress around Virginia, where other Uighurs live and have offered to settle them.
Nury Turkel, a Washington, D.C.-based Uighur rights activist, hailed the computer training development. Internet access could allow the men to listen to Uighur broadcasts of Radio Free Asia, he said.”

Germany Seeks to Avoid Taking Uighurs

US President Barack Obama had been hoping that Germany would take nine Guantanamo detainees deemed ready for release. But Berlin has presented a list of conditions which likely cant be met.
During his brief visit to Germany last week, US President Barack Obama told the gathered press in Dresden that, when it came to the possibility of Germany accepting some of the Guantanamo prisoners due to be released, concrete demands were not yet on the table.
DPA German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble is opposed to accepting Uighur detainees from Guantanamo. We have not asked (Chancellor Angela Merkel) for hard commitments, and she has not given us any hard commitments beyond having a serious discussion about (whether there are) ways that we can solve this problem Obama declared.
Strictly speaking, that may be true. But according to information obtained by SPIEGEL, Germany has long since blocked the idea of accepting Guantanamo detainees and has done so without having to issue an outright rejection.
