I thought there were a number of good points of fact and principle in the speech, but the delivery was rather flat.

If it had just been an average GOP Congressman giving that speech, I suspect there wouldn’t be much fuss. But let’s face it: Jindal and Palin are the two many conservatives and Republicans (not always the same thing) are counting on to turn the tide and bring conservative principles back into the White House. I think a lot of us went in with the idea this was going to be round 1 of the 2012 race rather than just a “typical” rebuttal to the State of the Union. By that standard, I think Jindal has some work to do.

I've read about Jindal for months now, but this is the first speech I've seen him make.

An unmitigated disaster.

People who say "What about the substance, he had that" can pat themselves on the back for being about substance if they want, that's not the issue. If no one listens to you, it doesn't matter what you say.

The country likes Obama's style. Like it or not, Jindal looked like the same old thing, someone not prepared for the spotlight who thinks he can overcome inexperience by being fake-friendly. He came off like a hopped-up Mr. Rogers, and as sincere as a used car salesman during a Going Out of Business sale.

One can claim none of this matters, but it does, big time. I don't think Sarah Palin will be the nominee in 2012, but seeing this video showed you how a genuine communicator does it--and it ain't like Jindal. Palin is comfortable in front of the camera and talking to the televiion audience. Whatever the issues are that will keep her from being the next nominee, that ain't one of them.

If we learned anything about the media from the last 9 years it's that if you aren't a good communicator, you've lost the message war, and if you've lost the message war, you've lost, period.

Jindal is off my list for potential 2012 nominee. Which leaves...no one.

I caught some of the middle of his speech and just saw the first minute or so of the beginning. Quit with the Obama congratulating people! This was McCain’s tactic in the general. He was saying what a wonderful president Obama would make! BHO is going to destroy this country. I frickin’ know where his father came from. It’s not a wonderful thing that he was voted in based on his color. Jindal sounded like he was reading a children’s book about Obama. And I just got through saying earlier tonight that Jindal was my guy! I don’t think we have one single person that’s going to cut it for 2012—at least no one that has stepped forward yet. Jindal is probably a very nice man. He’s a smart guy, but after what I just saw, he won’t cut it for 2012.

I saw Cantor on FNC after Jindal's lukewarm response

I'm sure a number of FReepers will be angry and upset - but Canter cannot bring in his own ethnic voters against the ACORN bunch in 2012 - They voted bigtime against Republicans and alway do -

In 20010 and 2012 expect new young hispanics to be voting in larger numbers and percentages for democrats than ever before

Add in the union voting scam and Census and increasing role of the media - while talk radio is up against a corrupt FEC and Congress - and bankruptcy is facing satellite radio alternatives

Most on the right are still thinking of old ideas and cliche phrases and past tactics and politicians

Hussein is buying more reparations and bribed votes every day with your tax dollars - and the left sticks solidly together

Thanks for posting the link. I couldn’t find a clip of earlier on Youtube.

He’s a smart guy and sincere. Will be great for behind-the-scenes decision making. But he is not forceful enough to be a Presidential candidate, IMO.

I heard Jindal on the radio earlier today. Sounded squishy.

A Republican should have gone on tonight and said:

Why have you spent over a million dollars keeping your birth certificate locked up?

Are you a natural-born citizen? Are you even a citizen?

Since your grandfather, father, mother, and mentor, and all your associates since childhood have been Communists—Why aren’t you a Communist? Or are you?

Why have you seized control of the census?

Why have you given ACORN $4 billion? Isn’t there enough thuggery and vote fraud to satisfy you?

Of course the “stimulus bill” had no earmarks—It was 100% PORK from beginning to end. Earmarks are pork! If a bill is 100& pork, there’s no need for earmarks.

Why is the money supply shooting up like a moon rocket?

And why have you spent over a million dollars keeping your birth certificate locked up? (I know—I want to see this question repeated.)

"You have been sucked into the symbolism over substance hole promulgated by the MSM.

I'm not sucked into anything. But, I understand what drives people to buy things and politics is no different.

Have you ever watched a commercial and wondered to yourself "What moron would buy something based on this commercial?"

Well, that moron is the American consumer who makes up the American electorate.

Superficial aesthetic is important in a politician because it's deeply important to the American consumer. It's as simple as that.

Everything else you mention in your post is right on the money. But those are facts which require the application of reason and logic. Those aren't traits that are long in supply in the American voter.

Oh that I wish the electorate carefully studied candidates and their records and position papers, but they don't. All the MAJORITY of Americans care about is how someone looks, how they speak not what they say.

"Americans can do anything". Sounded good, didn't look that great, and the audio glitches almost seemed deliberate. Where's my candycane?

Teleprompter Kenyan was in top form. I thought somebody was going to blow-out a knee with all the genuflecting going on during his speech.

Bobby did mention the 'individual' versus 'government' as the vehicle best to deliver those things that make us great (jobs, innovations, etc.). Not sure the average non-taxpaying dolt will relate- a possible majority in itself.

The Kenyan Collectivist's agenda will need a little time to un-inspire the flock's most Ambian influenced dreamtards for whom speeches ought to come with warnings about their various side effects such as: bleary vision, erectile disfunction, loose stool, kidney problems, hair loss, and the heartbreak of psoriasis.

And where could one look to find a more sneaky and dirty character for a villainous role in a movie other than Barack's own chief of staff. Man, words cannot describe. I think I'd have to title my response to anything B Huessen spouts with, "The Filth That Surrounds Him". The guy's a walking, talking, Chicago porta-potty with a nice smile. A year of this guy and there'll be a run on toilet plungers.

"Jindal is off my list for potential 2012 nominee. Which leaves...no one."

I was equally disappointed. I agree, Palin is comfortably better than Jindal in front of the camera. Unfortunately, I don't believe Palin has a prayer in a national election; too much damage already done.

What about Sanford? I saw him on Fox News Sunday this past week and thought he held his own nicely. Which, I thought was difficult when competing with three other guests. Of course, he does have the "just another white guy from the South" persona that brings it's own set of problems.

People keep expecting the GOP to exhibit a small level of competency.

It is an insane expectation.

DC politicians bring in a fresh face and then apparently don't adequately prepare or support him, not a surprise.

I would rather get my gall bladder removed than watch a political speech from either party, but from what I am reading here people were disappointed that Jindal wasn't as smooth as Hussein Baraka.

At some point more free people will realize that this won't be solved at the ballot box or by professional politicians, but by outraged patriots taking to the streets and demanding that the socialists take their hands out of our grand kids pockets.

What about Sanford?

I will have to check him out. I agree, though most won't, that Palin is not going to be the nominee next time, unless we want to lose again. I'll appease those who are easily offended by reassuring them that I like Palin, it's just that she's not going to win.

*Whomever is the nominee will have to be just as charismatic, dynamic, and eloquent (yes, he's eloquent when delivering prepared texts) as Barry or they don't stand a chance.*

*sigh*.... That's what I liked about Romney last go around. The guy could have stood up next to Obama toe-to-toe and debated him eloquently and from a conservative position with the voice of experience. (Waits for the usual crew to bad mouth the guy's actions 10-years ago...)

I tend to buy into the idea that damaged goods are often just that. Romney, because he didn't make it in the general, isn't as damaged as McCain, but still... I've been hearing all the talk about Jindal coming from this site for some time, and frankly, I haven't gotten it. Now I do. No one had seen the guy talk before but pushed him right to the top of potential nominees.

I'm one huge on results, as well, but in this modern age, the right packaging and being able to deliver a moving and eloquent message is tremendously important. And no one I've seen is better at that than Obama. It was very evident even during the 2004 Dem Convention. Jindal can't compete with that, and he never has. McCain obviously couldn't, either.

Jindal isn't ready for prime time. It was not the setting or delivery of the response. The content was incoherent praise for Obama with occasional family anecdotes. It did not adequatly adress the porkulus and other threats the Dems have deviced for our Republic.

The GOP should have let Gov. Palin deliver the response for a number of reasons.

You guys are freaks. Jindal is a good man, good conservative. Nobody listens to the response except people of the same party. Mr. Jindal gets a whole lot more chances from me. Thank God he is the republican governor of LA.
My theory is he heard the echo and it threw him off.
