What Would Happen if a Nuclear Bomb Goes Off in Your City? - Cool Interactive Map

(Application on site)

http://www.notoriouslyconservative.com/2009/03/from-carlos-labs-have-you-ever-wondered.html

Now of course you should never play with matches, let alone a nuclear bomb. If you have a bomb, you are a terrorist, and I hate you. This map is just for fun, to go along with the nuclear bomb testing video posted below.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if a nuclear bomb goes off in your city? With Google's Maps framework and a bit of Javascript, you can see the outcome. And it does not look good.

The list of weapons contains bombs of historical significance - but what happens with modern, nuclear-assertive countries not in the list? France: has a similar to "B61", also deployed by jet fighter.

India, Pakistan: equivalent to "Fat Man". Probably larger.

Iran, Syria: deny having a bomb. Yet. Smaller than "Little Boy".

Israel: denies having a bomb. Ever. As big as "Joe-4". North Korea: equivalent to "Little Boy". Probably smaller.

South Africa: had "Little Boy", but renounced nuclear weapons.

Wonder what the differnt colored rings mean? Click on the red tear drop in the middle for an explanation.

Have Fun!

In the case of D.C. I haved to figure the “if” just went from about 5% to about %40 or thereabouts; I’m in the process of moving outside the beltway and would advise anybody living inside the beltway to do likewise.

My “city” is only about 200 yards by 400 yards so I think a nuke here would pretty much level us.

Enjoy the commute.

Metro may be bad, but 66 and 95 are really, really bad.

;-)

And if you call in the next 20 minutes (we can’t do this all day ya know) we’ll toss in a bio-weapon attack at no extra charge (just pay S&H).

Jerome Corsi’s “Atomic Iran” has a pretty detailed account of the cnsequences of a nuke detonation in a large American city.

Might as well use Tsar Bomba and be done with it.

If you click on the red tear drop, it gives you info about the fallout effects.

The calculator does thermal only, and apparently for a ground detonation.

http://www.aussurvivalist.com/nuclear/downloads.htm

These will get closer to reality, if you can run DOS programs. A little geekier and not as pretty, but if you really want to plan against a nuke going off near you, it’s the way to go.

I have the circular slide rule that came with the Glasstone book, plus some specialized models. I found that even being 20 miles away from an “optimum burst height” blast can break glass and scorch things.

Too bad it’s not a Blast Effects overlay; that would be more useful.

On a positive note: it would only take ONE of Israel’s bombs to completely obliterate Mecca!
