Obama Gunning for the Second Amendment
Publius' Forum ^ | 3/21/09 | Selwyn Duke

This will seem like a strange way to open a piece of commentary, but the gun owners who voted for Barack Obama believing he respected Second Amendment rights remind me of the bumbling Inspector Clouseau. Specifically, I think of the scene from “The Return of the Pink Panther” in which Clouseau was getting a real dressing down from his superior, Chief Inspector Dreyfus. The issue was that Clouseau had naively stood by talking to a “blind” organ grinder outside a bank while the institution was being robbed. After Dreyfus pointed out that the organ grinder was the lookout for the thieves and Clouseau said that such a thing was impossible because the beggar was blind, Dreyfus asked how Clouseau knew this. Clouseau replied, “He told me so.”

Quite frankly, this wasn’t nearly as stupid as believing that a member of Chicago’s socialist New Party, who was weaned in a black power church, was a gun caesar and not a gun seizer. And now Obama is in fact striking a blow against the Second Amendment. He isn’t doing anything obvious such as advocating a ban on semi-automatic rifles, however (not yet); rather, in typical Saul Alinsky “Rules for Radicals” style, he is attacking where his adversaries least expect.

So what is the latest change you can believe in? Gordon Hutchinson reports at a blog called “The Shootist” that Obama has just disallowed the Department of Defense (DOD) from selling spent brass shell casings to manufacturers of ammunition for the civilian market. This means that these companies will now have to by new brass and produce their own shell casings, a much more expensive — and wasteful — proposition.

It seems to me that he let the cat out of the bag before he was elected, referring to the second Amendment.

.

It is one of the very few circa 1700’s smoothbore flintlocks not converted to percussion for the Civil War

My circa 1898 .44-40 7-1/2” Colt hogleg is my most modern firearm

You shoot that big old hogleg?

How does it stack up to .45 LC?

‘98 big frames are safe with smokeless

Colt says about ‘06

I don’t go from hotloads as that model, caliber, finish, and size Colt is worth a good deal

I have always been very accurate firing as I draw before even viewing the sights

The only mods were polishing up the internal machining and some trigger and spring changes - I keep original 3-G spares

I also have a Model-1859 backstrap and TG and one-piece grips with CW SN#s that are very close to my SAA 177-— numbers

That policy has been canceled thank God.

I received an email a couple of days ago from Georgia Arms saying they were notified by a Department of Defense official that the DOD's practice of selling large amounts of fired brass to GA Arms for reloading it's popular "Canned Heat" brand of reloaded ammo has been reinstated, and GA Arms' suspended order of fired brass is being shipped. The email credited and thanked the thousands of their customers and others who protested to their Congressman and Senators about the cancellation of the long standing practice of auctioning off fired brass to commercial reloaders.

The Magic Kenyan will no doubt soon come up with another and better camouflaged scheme to limit and eventually cut off the ammunition supply to gun-owning Americans, but at least this one outrage was made public and the public reacted exactly as it should have. A major part of the price for keeping our 2nd Amendment rights is constant vigilance, because "O" will never let up as long as he has the power to keep trying.

I was in an Academy store earlier this evening (Plano, TX) to pick up weapon cleaning supplies and found that the counter area was full of folk looking at fire arms for the first time... couple conversations I overheard were of spouses looking to buy their first weapons.

There you go "O" ... you're a weapons mfg. best/most efficient marketing machine.

No friend would ever have me live under that Marxist bastard. No decent human being would do that to this country.

I feel exactly the same way. I don't have any close friends or relatives who voted for Kenya's favorite son, but my wife's formerly close friend did because she didn't like Sarah Palin for some sillyass reason she can't explain. Her husband is a millionaire several times over and they complain bitterly about taxes all the time, yet she voted for more and higher taxes. Her husband didn't like it any more than I do, but he has to live with her and I don't.

She and my wife aren't as close friends as they were before, and I can hardly stand to even be coldly polite to her when I have to be in her company. The only reason I can tolerate her at all is that she's not the sharpest crayon in the box by a very long shot and really shouldn't even be allowed to vote. She was once a public school teacher before marrying a well to do husband so you don't have to guess what her political views are.

My wife was once a public school teacher too. 3 different districts, 3 elementary grades plus middle school math, and substituting at the high school level. Now she's not only a professor of education, she's the chair of the, admittedly small, department.

She didn't like McCain, but voted for him anyway, in an attempt to save our Grandchildren from what we knew, then and know even better now, The Messiah would do to them.

So watch where you swing that broad brush.

So, are you coming to the 4th Annual Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoot: October 17th, 2009 ~ Seagoville, TX?

Assuming all gatherings of more than 2 gunowners aren't declared illegal militia assemblies by that time... and even if they are, come to think of it.

By the way, the Full Auto Ban Amendment to the 1986 “Firearms Owners Protection Act” never REALLY passed! It was just on a voice vote, and the Nays WAY outweighed the Yeas on the Amendment’s adoption ballot! I heard it! Tip O’Neal just PROCLAIMED that it passed, to the GASPS of many in attendence, and the minority Repubs could not challenge him because of the parlimentary rules in effect at the time! HONEST! History!
