As in ‘Praise God and pass the ammunition’, lead? or
Lead, follow or move?

We have strayed a long way from where the Founding Fathers once stood. I don't think they would have stopped throwing tea into the river because some bureaucrat told them not to. They probably would have dragged the bureaucrat from his office and covered him in tar and feathers. I imagine the politicians of that time period feared the average citizen a little more than they do today.

Exactly. They were denied permission to throw tea in the river, as the tea might discolor it.
What would you do?

No.
Let’s all go hang banners from the Iwo Jima memorial or lead a flotilla over the USS Arizona.
We have the parks and national mall for those things.

I think you’re missing the point - they want to use the park where the ship is housed and not the ship itself.
To: Saint X
What’s funny about this, off subject, is that I see more articles posted from the Lagniappe (which, for those who don’t know, is a fairly seat of the pants operated, I believe weekly, free local newspaper) than from the Mobile Press Register (the “main stream” local paper). The Lagniappe seems to do more investigative reporting than the “real” paper.

Is the park part of the monument?
I do believe that our parks should be allowed for public protest, but listed monuments should be off limits.

Is this a Mobile Tea Party ping list?
Please add me....I’ll bring several people. Maybe not all voting age, but we’ll be there.

Here's an email I got from sweet_dianne:
"Ok... latest news on the Mobile Tea Party will be April 15 noon-2pm at the Cooper Riverside Park. The Battleship Board of Trustees did not want the Tea Party there. Help get the word out! Email mobileteaparty@yahoo.com for questions."
I will be attending with 3-4 people myself.

It’s a pretty big area. I think it would be the same as saying we don’t want any protests on the National Mall because the war memorials are nearby.
But, I’m certain they didn’t want to use the USS Alabama or the USS Drum (the submarine also at the park) for any part of the “Tea Party” protest.

Here's a link to the photo gallery for the Battleship Park.

Hi blam :) I'll be attending. My Husband will hopefully have some work to do that day, but will attend with me if able. Baldwin County spring break is that week so my 17 yr old daughter will probably go with me and my 21 yr old will if she isn't scheduled for work. There is also another Tea Party possibly in the works for 6pm in Mobile (not at Coopers). I'll post when I hear/see something about it.
Closer to date we'll have to exchange cell numbers and meet up! :)

I am in sympathy with your sentiments; however, it seems to me wholly appropriate to express fervent patriotism at the memorials to our greatest patriots.

Anyone taken a look @ the commissioners of the USS Alabama?
Judge Herman Thomas, says volumes.
To: Saint X
What the Commission needs to remember is that it was the school children of Alabama (My Mother and her Generation) who saved their dimes, nickels, and pennies to purchase our great Lady to begin with.
It was the school children of my generation who saved, and raised money to paint and repair her after that.
I am ashamed of the Commission. The Park is not just for those they deem fit to grace it. I can think of no other group (in recent history) who has been denied.
Our Great Lady surely weeps.
