U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, (R-Saks) used a day of his two-week break from his congressional duties in Washington, D.C. to drop in on a few of his constituents at Auburn University Montgomery.
AUM and the main campus of Auburn University are both in congressional District 3, which Rogers represents.
Rogers talked a bit about the economy, the war and homeland security. But some of the most interesting comments he had to make (at least in this reporter's humble opinion) were about how Congressional Democrats were wielding their new majority in Congress.
Despite President Barack Obama's commitment to bipartisanship, Rogers says Speaker of House Nancy Pelosi (whom he described as "crazy," "mean as a snake" and "Tom DeLay in a skirt") and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid didn't get that memo.
"They don't talk to us," he said. "They've got the vote, and they can do what they want."
Rogers said to be fair Democrats are paying Republicans back for how they were treated when the Republicans controlled Congress.
"Republican leaders didn't talk to the Democrats," he said. "The attitude was 'We have the votes on our side, let the Democrats whine.'"
Rogers said that's a culture that needs to change if Congress wants to get more done in between election cycles.
"At some point we've got to recognize that the power goes back and forth," he said. "One side only has it for a finite time and we've got to work together while the minority is still sensitive because that's going to be us one day."
Imagine that “crazy and “mean as a snake” and that is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy after “aunt Flo” left her building.
As a reptile lover, I’m offended.
No news there. I always knew she was a loon and I strongly suspected she was as mean as a snake. I am sure her family would agree.
“Republican leaders didn’t talk to the Democrats,”
That’s because the democrats in power were Pelosi, Reid, et al - all of whom are liberal leftists with agendas so far off the map it would have been stupid to even try to talk to them. Now, “the snake” has the power and we are going to see what the Republicians weren’t talking about in action and it isn’t pretty.
sorry; just posted the same thing; didn’t realize you had posted it too! Don’t hold it against me.
I’d like to ask Mike Rogers why his ACU voting record has plunged to just above outright liberal territory. A paltry 50% Conservative rating in 2008, down from 80% in 2007.
Ask him...don't just "like to ask".
Goes to show you, when a liberal republican thinks she is mean as a snake, she must be pretty bad.
He is a nice leftist.
With a starting lineup of Obama, Biden, and Pelosi, has this nation ever before been in the grip of such a brainless-but-still-evil-enough-to-do-great-damage crew of misfits?
I want to see Pelosi square off against Chuck Norris in a cage match.
Time to primary Alabama Mike. He’s gone John Buchanan.
Wish I had a dollar for every time I did the same thing :)
(let he who is with out typo cast the first flame)
