Politico.com reports that the White House is denying that President Obama bowed to Saudi King Abdullah last week during the G-20 Summit in London:
The White House is denying that the president bowed to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia at a G-20 meeting in London, a scene that drew criticism on the right and praise from some Arab outlets.Yet, when you watch the video above, it clearly shows Obama bowing at about the 54 second mark of the video, not just slightly bending down to shake hands with a shorter person. Who do they think they are kidding?
"It wasn't a bow. He grasped his hand with two hands, and he's taller than King Abdullah," said an Obama aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The Washington Times called the alleged bow a "shocking display of fealty to a foreign potentate" and said it violated centuries of American tradition of not deferring to royalty. The Weekly Standard, meanwhile, noted that American protocol apparently rules out bowing, or at least it reportedly did on the occasion of a Clinton "near-bow" to the emperor of Japan.
Interestingly, a columnist in the Saudi-backed Arabic paper Asharq Alawsat also took the gesture as a bow and appreciated the move.

Yes it was a bow. some kind of wierd bow, but definitely a bow.
The video clearly shows that the King had his left hand free.

Obviously not a bow. Looks like he’s loosening up the old hamstrings prior to some one on one baskets with the king.
This attempt at an excuse might be better than, “I didn’t inhale”.

Exactly. A bow would have been at least tolerable. But, he just barely stopped himself from going down on one knee. I don't genuflect to anyone except God. Obama is an horrendous shame of an "American".
If he was reaching his arms would be outstretched. His arms are bent at 90 degree angles at his sides. Who keeps their arms bent at 90 degrees and bends over to shake hands?
It's a power thing, but you kinda give up the power aspect when bowing during it.
