Once again, Meghan proves her ignorance. The ballot proposition would not have banned gays from teaching and Reagan opposed it for one reason: It was bad (and unnecessary) law:
Despite Polls, Prop. 6 Called a Cliff-Hanger
Doyle Mcmanus. Los Angeles Times Nov 5, 1978; pg. B1
(snip)
"Let's get it straight what Proposition 6 does not do," [State Sen. John V.Briggs] now emphasized. "It does not call for the mass dismissal of homosexual teachers. . . . What teachers do in private is their business, but what they do in California classrooms is our business."
(In fact, the proposition would permit school boards to fire any teacher--homosexual or heterosexual--who "advocates, solicits, imposes, encourages or promotes public or private homosexual activity." The state legislative analyst says the measure's effect would depend on how broadly school boards and courts interpret those words.)
Prop. 6 Dangerous, Reagan Believes
Richard West. Los Angeles Times Sep 23, 1978; pg. A26
Former Gov. Ronald Reagan is against Proposition 6, the initiative measure that would allow the firing of teachers who advocate homosexual life-styles, because "it has the potential for real mischief."
"I don't approve of teaching a so-called gay life-style in our schools, but there is already adequate legal machinery to deal with such problems if and when they arise," the Reagan statement says.
Reagan goes on to say that Proposition 6 "has the potential of infringing on basic rights of privacy and perhaps even constitutional rights."
Reagan notes that public hearings on such charges would be conducted by school boards, and says:
"What if an overwrought youngster disappointed by bad grades imagined it was the teacher's fault and struck out by accusing the teacher of advocating homosexuality . . ."Innocent lives could be ruined. Under present law, such matters can be investigated first to see if they have any merit.
"Proposition 6 is not needed to protect our children. We have that legal protection now. It could be very costly to implement and it has the potential for causing undue harm to people."
Turns out she’s a fruit fly, huh? A fag hag?
That's silicone. ;-)
“If the Republican Party has any hope of gaining substantial support from a wider, younger base, we need to get past our anti-gay rhetoric.”
Maybe many gays, Republican and otherwise need to get past their ‘anti-HETEROSEXUAL rhetoric AND ACTIONS!
