TERRY MILLER HIT PIECE ON DR. LAURA SCHLESSINGER IN PASADENA INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPER
Pasadena Sub Rosa ^ | April 13, 2009 | Wayne Lusvardi

Posted on 04/13/2009 1:38:12 PM PDT by WayneLusvardi

The Pasadena Independent, owned by Beacon Media in Monrovia, California, has published an apparent slanderous article by Terry Miller, staff photographer, in its April 15 issue on radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger's visit to the City of Arcadia to celebrate the city as a family friendly place to live.

Schlessinger was the keynote speaker at the City of Arcadia's Community Breakfast, which was reportedly sold out. Hiding behind comments by "anonymous" persons who attended the event who Miller failed to identify, we read that Schlessinger (erroneously) believes "that gay people are biological errors," that her views are "caustic and divisive." We also read that unnamed people (who paid for the event) left during her speech. Miller failed to interview Schlessinger as to what her exact views on these issues are.

Schlessinger is a proud parent of a soldier in Iraq and showed off an American flag on her boots and sewed onto the back of her pants as a patriotic symbol. Here's how Miller reported this:

"Mayor Harbricht introduced Schlessinger, she strutted up to the stage, stuck out her behind at the audience, (presumably to show off her patriotic pants which bore Old Glory on the backside) and then flaunted her alligator boots which were painted with stars and stripes."

Miller went on to write: "Sadly, it seemed few in the audience were concerned with Schlessinger's opinions but more her celebrity." But if no one was interested in Schlessinger's erroneously reported bigoted views, why did Miller's article report the opposite? And what about all those "anonymous" people who walked out and said inaccurate things about her, Terry?

Terry Miller is listed as a "photographer" for the Beacon News. As such, his op-ed should be considered yellow journalism, not "opinion." It has no place in a community newspaper. The article is not only a slur on Schlessinger but a slam on the City of Arcadia which sponsored the event. And this also does not reflect well on all the advertisers to the Pasadena Independent. Here is a picture of Terry Miller taking photos:

Terry Miler's article which borders on slander can be found online here: http://beaconmedianews.com/2009/04/09/reactionary-talk-show-host-laura-schlessinger-draws-criticism-as-keynote-speaker-at-community-breakfast/

The Pasadena Independent is a free community newspaper which is dependent on advertising. It also publishes the Arcadia Weekly and Monrovia Weekly. Register your opposition to this form of yellow journalism masquerading as an opinion piece in the Pasadena Independent by the following:

1. Do not patronize the advertisers of the Pasadena Independent or Arcadia News. 2. Tell business establishments that advertise in the Independent that you do not care for that kind of yellow journalism. 3. Throw away the Pasadena Independent anywhere you can find it. 4. Not a Dr. Laura fan but I would like to point out that the Stop Dr. Laura website campaign (to keep her off of television) championed the support they got from Susan Sarandon. Hypocritical in the least when you consider how she and her husband Tim Robbins took the Right to task in the 2000s because of a “chill wind” stifling dissent and debate (in the wake of 9-11).

Yeah. Saw Dr Same ol'-Same ol' on Larry King just last week. She laid a pretty low hit on Sarah and Bristol Palin for not putting Bristol's kid up for adoption. That's how she is. She always gives the same ol' advice just like clockwork. Larry King loved it, of course, because it helped the cause of destroying the Palins (how dare Sarah Palin pose a threat to their darling boy).

She is horrible. I can’t stand her advice. The other day there was a thread where FREEPERS blasted the heck out of her...she said something really stupid...I forgot what it was now. lol.

I bet Terry Miller does a pretty good job of strutting & flaunting himself.

Her thoughts were that the child deserves a mother and a father. I don’t see how that’s a low hit.

Yes, her advice about personal responsibility and that actions have consequences are terrible. Her opinion that some problems just can’t be fixed are abhorrent. And her strident defense of children in the “what about ME?” generation of parents are disgusting.

We both agree. Oh and giving up a child for adoption just to blast Sarah Palin is not cool. However something tells me that you will agree with Laura.

Dr. Laura was very adamant on her disapproval of Sarah Palin during the campaign, not because she isn't a conservative (she is), but because she's also a social conservative who believes in traditional family values. She felt that being Vice President would be detrimental to her son Trig Palin and the amount of "mom time" that every child needs.

Bristol Palin's child is the same situation - raising a child as a single mother is detrimental to the child as opposed to having a loving mommy and a daddy, which is what adoption would provide. Not to mention the good press around such an "adoption" as an alternative to the abortion that mothers around the nation do now that such an event would do for the pro-life cause.

Some may not agree with her consistent pro-children advice, but it is what it is, even when it's inconvenient.

I have a pronoun problem :)

“Dr. Laura was very adamant on her disapproval of Sarah Palin during the campaign, not because she isn’t a conservative (she is), but because she’s also a social conservative who believes in traditional family values. She felt that being Vice President would be detrimental to her son Trig Palin and the amount of “mom time” that every child needs.”

Better written as:

“Dr. Laura was very adamant on her disapproval of Sarah Palin during the campaign, not because Dr. Laura isn’t a conservative (she is), but because Dr. Laura is also a social conservative who believes in traditional family values. Dr. Laura felt that Palin being Vice President would be detrimental to Palin’s son Trig and the amount of “mom time” that every child needs.”

You can be part of the Laura fan group, but I am not. We just disagree on this one issue. Sarah can raise her children the way she wants. She does not need to take advice from someone who has been divorced and her child while in Iraq was making nasty videos. Yes she is the poster Mom for children....NOT! Plus she only had one...how hard was that? I don’t think that is enough experience to tell other parents how to raise their children.

I don’t see how that’s a low hit.

As an observer who's been watching the MSM tear into Sarah Palin for 8 months now, and gnashing my teeth over it, this non-story enabled Larry King to extricate some supposely conservative gasoline to throw on the fire. She should not have let herself be used that way. She should have told Larry she knew exactly what he was up to and that she was not going to play that game.

Now of course, if you don't care about Sarah Palin, then I understand your lack of concern.

Dr. Laura's life has had ups and downs, which she should have reason to regret. Yet she gives advice as though her way is the only way. I think that Sarah's home will be a good place to raise her own children and grandson, if necessary. (BTW, what kind of videos?)

She is always ridiculing people for mistakes in judgement. Yet she will not talk about the nude photos she had taken when she was younger.
