I agree with all you said. As I said, I support either allowing all to have the protections or all not to have them.

I appreciate the way you phrased your observations. It was clear, concise, and well reasoned. I actually can say that I agree with it completely.

My position on the situation was the same as this- A while back, people were attacking the Catholic faith through art. They were putting crucifixes in beakers of urine and putting elephant dung on pictures of the virgin Mary. It outraged me to no end. I also know that as Americans, if the constitution means anything, they had the right to express themselves that way.
People burn flags, I hate it, but, its their right to dissent that way.
I guess it makes me feel that if we have those rights to equality and expression, then why don’t all Americans have the right to have couples rights? Either we must define the rules as for all, or perhaps for none.
I can very easily be persuaded by your argument, and I agree that a mature culture must and should discriminate.
I hope you can understand where my thought process came from on this topic, and I thank you for presenting yours.

Rights are from G-d. That’s the basis of Natural Law, the common law that our original law is based upon. From THAT law we could make cases for rights to polygamy and concubinage. But not to homosexual couples “rights”.

And by that Law we can’t honor contracts for immoral activities either.

It will take much to bring this country back to where it began, eh?

Well, sure looks like that. But things can change very fast — overnight in some times. Not necessarily by major tragedy either.

People just all of sudden wake up. Sort of like some bright morning light shining in the window in the morning.

Sort of like the boy in the Emperor’s New Clothes who hadn’t yet been cultural trained to have his mind override his eyes, so he sees the Emperor in nothing but, whereas everyone else up to that point not only says they see how wonderful his new robes are — because he is the Emperor — but they actually in their mind see him fully clothed.

Yet when the boy yell’s out he “He has no clothes!” that immediately breaks the paradigm.

What’s a real life example — life, fame and fortune are full of them. Famous one day, forgotten almost the next. Any teenager idol. Oh — I know — Santa Claus! It’s like that moment in many children lives where they discover that Santa is NOT real. There’s no going back, the uptake of the new paradigm is immediate. Immediate and one-way, but not without residual effect.

I pray you are right bvw. While I will never claim not to make mistakes on this crazy journey, I know that homosexuality is wrong, just as I know that nasty stuff some call art is wrong and some speech is wrong, and so much is wrong. It is the immorality that is the issue, without doubt. I guess I just got too caught up in the right to being treated the same, because we constantly have our rights taken away every day, so I know what it feels like to not have a right that I feel is right. They limit almost every thing I hold dear, and then expand everything I despise(abortion being on the forefront of that point) and I constantly feel there is no way to win because these folks are nuts, but the rest of the country is too busy being distracted by the latest american idol, or new gadget or reality tv show to notice.

I guess I have confused a right to equal protection for all couples with the ability to be a couple at all. I am not sure. I know in the natural law this cannot be, but I do believe our country is on a path away from that, all one has to do is open their eyes. I just don’t know if God still has his Divine Providence over our country at this point. We have really screwed it up.

I will just continue to pray you are right. The two things I can say are this. 1. As a Catholic, I am able to submit to moral authority on this issue, and the conservative platform has always been correct on every other issue, so
2. therefore, while I am in conflict, I can defer to the conservative platform on this issue without reservation. I am sure on prayerful consideration, I can bring my will in line with my heart, or vice versa.

There, see, having a conversation with someone sometimes helps both sides see a little better. I do not condone homosexuality, but having my rights trampled as a conservative makes me leary if I feel that there might be others, even on the opposite team having their trampled. I can see where my error is, in the natural law versus immorality and rights, so I will pray about that. Thank you again for your insight.
