Father Alberto Cutié appeared on CBS this morning to defend his actions and discuss the Catholic Church's celibacy policy.
"This is someone who I love," he says.

Alberto can love whom he wants. He cannot however continue to do so as a Catholic Priest. He has made his choice. I feel sad that any Priest loses their vocation - he must now bite the bullet and do the right thing or humbly apologise and submit to the discipline of the Church - not whine and moan that the Church should change for him.

Ageed. This guy should have sought permission to leave a long time ago. He has compounded his sin.
He is absolutely gorgeous and so nice. Who could blame any woman for falling in love with him? Celibacy forced like it is in the Church is wrong. Even God doesn’t expect anyone to stay celibate if he ‘burns’. Then it’s better for him to BE married. Scripture tells us that. He has a right to love and be loved and to marry if he so chooses. The Church should allow priests to marry if it’s obvious they cannot stay celibate.
It doesn’t sound like they were ‘doing’ it on the beach. He claims they were only there for a few minutes on a cold and lonely beach.
Given that there are married priests...probably more than a few...serving in "the West" and many,*many* more serving in eastern rite churches I think,at least,that all ordinary priests (but perhaps not Bishops,Cardinals,etc) should be released from their vows of celibacy and be allowed to marry.
The clearly inexcusable thing I spoke of was being so pigishly blatant.
If you’re in love dude, I totally respect that. Time to take the collar off though.

Awesome interview! Clearly a very difficult position to be in. Amazing that for 22 years in the priesthood he remained faithful w/o giving in. Struggles like this are not unusual for any of us. Whether you are married, single, old, young, etc. Yes, it is an unfortunate situation, but he is human. And like he said, he isn’t trying to get the church to change. Unfortunately the media is trying to turn him into the poster boy for anti-celibacy.
Anyway, the fact that he owned up to it and is blaming himself, not the church, is admirable. I pray God directs him to make the right decisions here on out.

Celibacy ISN’T forced. They CHOOSE to go into the priesthood. Geez!!
They will not be ordained if they do not agree to take the vow of celibacy. Why not have them take the vow BEFORE the years of training as opposed to the very end after they’ve invested? Because they are too invested at that point, they don’t want to have done all that for nothing.

But they know about the vow of celibacy beforehand. Its not like they were tricked into it. They knew about the vow and they CHOSE to take it.
Maybe the church will eventually change their rules or maybe they won’t. Either way, Father Cutie chose it.
You can know about something ahead of time and have no choice but to take it. This is a choice but not a choice example. Like taxes. Taxes are voluntary in America, and you can choose to pay them, or not. But everyone knows what happens if you don’t, so is that really a choice? Practically speaking, it is not.
Again I say, why not have them take the vow on day 1 instead of the very end? If they have to take it, take it before all the work and study.

LOL. Yeah, I think the interviewer was expecting the priest to thrash the church. She seemed kind of dumbstruck, and probably disappointed.

What is the difference? Either way they are pefectly knowledgeable about the vow. Therefore, they can back out at any point in their studies.
