Here is your problem...
You do not say if the immigrant is an illegal alien or legal immigrant.
I have no problem with legal immigration. It is one of the things that has made this country strong.

Pretty soon it will be irrelevant as no one will be getting much of anything from Social Security.

I have a problem with an immigrant, getting more retirement than any US citizen under any circumstances. I have an even bigger problem is the US Citizen has been earning a living and paying taxes for their entire life, or if that citizen was raising a family while the breadwinner was working his butt off.

Want to come to this country, legally? No problem, welcome to our land, our culture and our way of life - now get a job and contribute to make this country strong.

Want to come to this country, and sponge off the social programs funded by working Americans? Sorry, you are not welcome here.

Nobody said this “immigrant” came to this country to “sponge off the social programs”. You are reading a lot into the email than is really there.

When you apply for a Visa to go to any other country (Europe, Canada and even Mexico) one of the questions they ask is how long you intend to stay, and the purpose of your visit. In many countries, unless you can show a fiscal means of support, you will be denied entrance to that country.

The USA is alone, in that we welcome any and all immigrants, without regard to their ability, or willingness to adopt to our culture, their ability or willingness to find a job, their health or any other concern.

I’m tired of financing other people’s medical bills, paying to have our education system fund teachers who speak their language, paying housing and food for indefinite periods of time, and now paying for a retirement program for anyone who manages to get inside of our borders.

My grandparents were immigrants, they came here legally, they established farms, learned english and paid taxes until they died. They did not come here with their hands out - demanding anything.

There was a time when America NEEDED immigrants, to grow our country, to work our soil, to settle and make this country. We don’t NEED immigrants anymore - we have an adequate population.

Contrast this to the ‘immigrants’ we see today; legal or otherwise. Spend some time in Arizona, Texas, Florida, New Mexico and Utah. See how our ‘guests’ trash everything they touch. See diapers left in Walmart parking lots, watch men urinate outside of grocery stores. See 3rd and 4th generation children who do not yet speak english.

We are no longer a melting pot

Well, basically it’s true, regardless of the Snopes spin.

Illegal aliens, especially older ones get SSI. They are in fact more eligible than citizens, because not speaking English is considered a requisite for not being ‘employable’, as is their advanced age .

BTW, what ever happened to the Mexican Totalization agreement where we would give Aliens Social Security after they go back to Mexico?

Here’s some info:

Evidence for an SSN Card for an Illegal Alien (Federal Benefits for Illegal Aliens?)

FOX NEWS:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,79013,00.html

[snip]Annie knew her mother had no legal basis to remain in the U.S. She had overstayed her tourist visa and had never applied for any type of immigration benefit beyond that, though she had managed to remain for years, working off the books and going undetected by the INS.

Annie had brought her mother to my office not for an immigration matter, but for retirement planning. She had one question, “What do I have to do to qualify her for SSI?”

SSI is funded through the payroll taxes of Americans. But you don’t have to be an American to receive SSI payments. Like food stamps, Medicaid and almost every other form of social insurance that America has developed to help its citizens, SSI is targeted by people from other countries as a tool to materially improve their lives without work.

The 1996 Welfare Reform Act may have erected barriers to a non-citizen’s eligibility for SSI, but it did not come close to ending it.

“When you apply for a Visa to go to any other country (Europe, Canada and even Mexico) one of the questions they ask is how long you intend to stay, and the purpose of your visit. In many countries, unless you can show a fiscal means of support, you will be denied entrance to that country.”
We are not talking about a visa, we are talking about moving to another country, forever. To obtain a visa to come to the U.S. you have to state the purpose of your visit, and be financially able to to come here. For example, to get a student visa, you have to be registered in a school, and have paid the tuition.

“The USA is alone, in that we welcome any and all immigrants, without regard to their ability, or willingness to adopt to our culture, their ability or willingness to find a job, their health or any other concern.”
This statement is false. We do not allow prostitutes, sick people, indigent people to immigrate into this country via immigration. There is a strict culling of people allowed to immigrate. To take citizenship in this country, you must denounce your former country. ( I know, some people do not do that, but they lie on their application).

“I’m tired of financing other people’s medical bills, paying to have our education system fund teachers who speak their language, paying housing and food for indefinite periods of time, and now paying for a retirement program for anyone who manages to get inside of our borders.”
Again, you are confusing Illegal immigrants with legal immigrants. I do not like the fact that we have so many illegal here either, but I do know that we need the legal immigrant. I just had a thought, a legal immigrant willing to bust his butt to get ahead, keeps the native born person on his toes just to compete. Simply one reason.

“My grandparents were immigrants, they came here legally, they established farms, learned english and paid taxes until they died. They did not come here with their hands out - demanding anything.”
And you think all immigrants today are freeloaders, right?

“There was a time when America NEEDED immigrants, to grow our country, to work our soil, to settle and make this country. We don’t NEED immigrants anymore - we have an adequate population.”
Please add “IMHO”. Google “Irish Immigration” or “Chinese Immigration” or “Samoan immigration” to read about how people just like you felt in our history. My Grandfather got off the boat in Boston Jan 26, 1900, and went to work in the rock quarries of Quincy, Mass. He worked him self up to quarry manager and was the first Scot to become a Vice President in the companies history.

“Contrast this to the ‘immigrants’ we see today; legal or otherwise. Spend some time in Arizona, Texas, Florida, New Mexico and Utah. See how our ‘guests’ trash everything they touch. See diapers left in Walmart parking lots, watch men urinate outside of grocery stores. See 3rd and 4th generation children who do not yet speak english.”
That is funny, I live in Utah, about 90 miles from Wendover, NV, where 1/2 the population is Hispanic, and legal immigrants in service jobs (hotel maids, waiters, busboys, maintenance people, black jack dealers and the like). The Hispanic kids attending the Wendover Schools are hard working and industrious. They work all summer in the casinos, get the training and are outstanding citizens. They pay taxes, have health insurance, and go on to college to become the managers of hotels themselves.
Every year around here, Immigrant workers arrive in the spring to shear sheep. They are hired by the Utah, Wyoming, Nevada and Oregon Sheep ranchers to do the professional jobs they have done all their lives. No, these are not Hispanics, but Aussies and New Zealanders, and they go home after the job is done. They pay our taxes, and obey our laws.

Now do not get me wrong. I do not agree with illegal immigration. That is where the problem in this country lies.

“We are no longer a melting pot”
We are more of a melting pot that you or I could ever imagine..... And far better off for it...

....Bob

If we were a melting pot, we wouldn’t have teachers with requirements to speak Spanish, Tagalog and other languages - beside English. We would not have 3rd and 4th generation immigrants still speaking their Native language (Hello, Mexico).

When our parents came here from whatever country they came from; they knew this was a one-way ticket. Many came over on ships, and not everyone that set sail from their country of origin, made it here. They came here with a dream, to work, to make something of themselves, to not to beg for handouts - but to embrace all things American. They knew that they would likely never go ‘home’ again; and that this was to be their new home. That’s the mindset we need, but that is absolutely NOT the mindset that is being shown.

Spend some time in Texas, where there are radio stations that promote La Raza, where radio stations proudly proclaim “La Invasión” as their theme. Drive along the Rio Grand and witness first hand the trails of garbage, graffiti and human waste left behind. Swing by Arizona, where emergency rooms are flooded with illegals, who use the ER as their primary medical service provider. Ask hospital workers in Texas, Arizona and California what the term “Mexican Taxi” means (Call ambulance with made up medical emergency, get in - ride it to your destination prior to arriving at the hospital - free ride). Swing by California and see how well that’s working for them there.

Look at our prisons, gang violence and drugs - check out the rate of felons and contrast that to the population at large.

The hispanics (especially) that I have met in these states want to make the USA into Mexico. When asked why they left Mexico, they say they are here because it’s the best deal going. They have no loyalty to the USA, if we had a draft to fight a major war - you would be amazed at the streams of them that would suddenly head back to Mexico.

The only reason that I can see, where we would offer special programs for immigrants that are not offered to US Citizens - would be to buy votes for the Democratic party. And unfortunately, due to extremely poor Republican leadership for the past decade - we are going to see programs put in place that will be a lead weight around our necks for the rest of our lives.
