The Honda Inability

Much has been written about the Insight, Honda’s new low-priced hybrid… So far, though, you have not been told what it’s like as a car; as a tool for moving you, your friends and your things from place to place. So here goes. It’s terrible. Possibly the worst new car money can buy. It’s the first car I’ve ever considered crashing into a tree, on purpose, so I didn’t have to drive it anymore.
Jeremy Clarkson The Sunday Times, May 17, 2009

Looks likes the old Insight.

Would hate to hit a deer in that.

The picture IS the old Insight. The new one is a four-door hatch.

And I’d take any review by Jeremy Clarkson with a grain of salt. He hates almost everything.

having been inside the current insight. I would say his review is far too gentle and polite.

The new Honda Insight is the modern day edsil.

Say what you will about Honda’s, but I am NOT ever going to give mine up, nor will I purchase anything but in the future. Hmmmmm, POS GM Malibu or Honda Accord? That’s not even a contest, I know that I can get at least 250k miles out of the Accord, and that is just in the first 10 years that I’ll own it.

Clarkson really goes to town on the Honda Insight. His position is that the car is designed for people who feel so guilty about driving they want their car to punish them. He might be on to something...

Sure your Accord is a great car but we are talking about a Honda hybrid. Specifically:

The nickel for the battery has to come from somewhere. Canada, usually. It has to be shipped to Japan, not on a sailing boat, I presume. And then it must be converted, not in a tree house, into a battery, and then that battery must be transported, not on an ox cart, to the Insight production plant in Suzuka. And then the finished car has to be shipped, not by Thor Heyerdahl, to Britain, where it can be transported, not by wind, to the home of a man with a beard who thinks he’s doing the world a favour...

But let me be clear that hybrid cars are designed solely to milk the guilt genes of the smug and the foolish.

Due to a car wreck last week my husband and I have been car shopping (ours was totaled by someone who didn’t stop at a red light). Anyway, I noticed that at the Honda place they didn’t even MENTION the Insight. I thought that was odd, I would have thought they would be pushing it.

It’s no pygmy pony, but being that it’s a Honda it can’t suck too badly.

But what about turbo Volvos? A 240 Turbo wagon is the ultimate sleeper!
