No, and we won’t until such time as the majority of translators that serve our area do.

I would have voted, but it seems to be some javascript crap and I just wasn't motivated enough to turn it on in this case.

I haven't turned a television on in the US in over 2 years. I guess I just don't care whether it's digital or not. If it got NHK or ABS/CBN maybe I would, but it doesn't.

Well, it has been a source of frustration, albeit indirectly. I connected up a converter-box for the parents of a friend of mine, who still used an antenna and a 1980s-vintage tv-set. Got it fixed up for them nicely, but for FOUR consecutive days, they keep fouling it up, and keep phoning me to come over and re-do it.

Both in their 70s, the gentleman is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, and his wife is a total ditz. Anyway, somehow they just can’t seem to get the hang of things. Unable to change channels the old way, the husband gets frustrated, and starts taking apart all the connections, winding up with no signal. Upset and panicked, they call me, again and again. I can’t keep this up.

I wonder how many others out there are like them. Maybe they’ll get the hang of it, but I have the feeling they’re just going to eventually give up and only listen to the radio.

Yes, 12 years ago when I went to DIRECTV and I’m not going back to cable or off air ever again.

Her being a "ditz" may just be a life strategy. You may have to get her alone, grab her by both shoulders, and explain to her that she's got to man up, with her man's faculties declining, and take responsibility for learning how to drive their TV.

I guess their disadvantage lies in their always having been broadcast customers like me, and never having had to deal with the intermediate tuner box that comes with a DVR, cable, or HDTV conversion. "Leave it on 3" or "Leave it on 4" makes no sense to them because they haven't a clue how it works in the first place. So of course if the other channels aren't there when the old man starts changing channels on the TV, he's going to assume that a connection has come loose, or that you screwed up and that that "leave it on 3" stuff is just a cover for your incompetence!

Yes. I have DirecTV, on 3 TVs. However on the family room, in addition to the DirecTV Tivo unit, I have a Channel Master CM-7000 converter via a small antenna mounted in the window. This gives me a third tuner for some stations. The main goal was to be able to record two programs and watch a third over the air. So far, it is working out well. I get about 18-20 channels over the air, several of which I do not get via the satellite.

Next year, when I get an HDTV, I would like to put a multi-directional outdoor antenna on the roof, that should get me about 30-40 over the air channels. I can also distribute it via diplexers and the satellite wires to all of the TVs in the house.

With the digital changeover, I found that I now get a full 12 more stations than I did previously. Sadly, 9 of those are Mexican, and 2 are PBS.
