Need a hip replacement, or corneal transplant? Nah, too expensive, so we might as well just eliminate you. Why even waste food and shelter on such an expensive, unproductive member of society?

I suspect they won't entirely Sol Roth people in the Dying Rooms. They'll probably include a couple of joints to go along with the pretty pictures after you drink the poison...

Added an excerpt from your Link:

Medicare now pays for treatments deemed safe and effective. The stimulus bill would change that and apply a cost- effectiveness standard set by the Federal Council (464).

The Federal Council is modeled after a U.K. board discussed in Daschle’s book. This board approves or rejects treatments using a formula that divides the cost of the treatment by the number of years the patient is likely to benefit. Treatments for younger patients are more often approved than treatments for diseases that affect the elderly, such as osteoporosis.

" Michael Tanner, a senior policy fellow at the libertarian Cato Institute, told CNSNews.com the question illustrates the fundamental contradiction in the health-care debate.

" Everybody wants to live forever, and everybody wants their loved ones to live forever, and nobody wants to pay for it,” he said.

Tanner suggested Devinsky’s question(to the President on his own grandmother) gets to the root of the matter — whether government should make decisions like the ones Obama made about his own grandmother.

" “I think it does show that these are personal questions and therefore something that should be left to the individual and not be rationed by third parties,” Tanner said. " Asked whether there would be any restriction on the kinds of rules a government plan might impose, Tanner said, “No, no, there’s no limit at all.”

" (A)nd, in fact, what we would probably see,” Tanner speculated, “is the use of these clinical effectiveness, or the ‘cost-effectiveness research’ studies to begin to say, ‘Well, we’ll stop reimbursing for x, y, and z because it’s not cost-effective.’”

Define "cost effective".

I think many of the elderly were "scared" into voting for Obama. He did preach gloom and doom in the marketplace and the environment (although Obama kinda forgot that recently)...had promised to care for the downtrodden with debts to big to handle, tax only the rich (250,000+) who don't pay "their share"...heightened feelings of class envy.

You are correct..they should be scared now. This is where the need for supplemental health insurance comes into play. That's if they have any money left after they take "the farm".

I hope there is a "citizen revolution" in magnitude..but how long does the taxpayer have to suffer before he or she or they will take action? Call it civil disobedience, call it whatever you want.

in proportion to your worth to society

So the rich (self-earned, invested well) elderly will live and the poor elderly (greeters working at Wal*Mart) will not.
