At times Barack Obama has compared himself and his policies to that of FDR, the President during the Great Depression. That is turning out to be a very valid and frightening comparison.

The traditional social studies text book view is that Herbert Hoover turned a recession into the great depression, by sitting on his hind quarters doing nothing. Actually that is a result of political propaganda of Roosevelt and his administration. The Truth is that both Herbert Hoover and then FDR turned the recession into a depression by OVER-tinkering with the economy. They were like the Tim Allen character on Home Improvement fooling with things until they blew up. Facts are, the Great Depression did not end until America started investing in Big business. One difference so far:

The Dow Jones doubled in a very brief time after FDR came into office; so far, it’s declined under BHO.

The bar has been set pretty high by FDR, but Obama is giving it all he's got to catch up with these impressive numbers:

Unemployment under FDR

1933 24.9

1934 21.7

1935 20.1

1936 17.0

1937 14.3

1938 19.0

1939 17.2

1940 14.6

1941 9.9

1942 4.7

Read the section in Michael Medved’s book regarding FDR - he summarizes what REALLY happened very nicely. And Obama is following the same insanity. This man has no clue. His words are entirely empty.

I would encourage everyone to read “The Forgotten Man” by Amity Schlaes.

This book is a real eye-opener ....and it shows that we are doomed to repeat lessons that weren’t really learned the first time.

Hoover is to G.W.Bush - and FDR is to Obama. Hoover, a nominal Republican (who was disliked by Coolidge - a hero of Ronald Reagan!) ...who believed that government solutions COULD be good. His tinkering made things bad ...and FDR ran for election criticizing Hoover’s failed efforts, but (like Obama) - once elected, he decided to ramp up the spending, government programs, regulations, etc. There were many onerous bills passed that hurt business - and helped keep the economy in the tank. But FDR and his socialist minions (he had lots of communist/socialist sympathizers on his staff) felt that it was more important to shape the government than to really “fix the problems.”

It is totally scary how history is repeating itself. It remains to be seen if the American public will wake up in 2010 and 2012 and recognize that Reagan fixed an economy that was far worse than when Obama became Pres( )ent [he hasn’t shown his ID]. FDR made things worse to help the Democrats, screw the country. Obama will try to do the same. We will find out if we are a nation ready for the saddle and bit - to be rode hard and manipulated as our “masters” desire - or if we will throw off the yoke of tyranny that the Democrat party wants us to wear!
