In this defense, I will do something I try and avoid and attempt to get into some one's head. First, there is a great deal of hypocrisy in the attacks on Palin. All those that call Palin a quitter should have been equally as tough on the likes of George W. Bush and Barack Obama. George W. Bush, especially, ran for governor of Texas in 1998. Within a year, he was running for President and two years later he was president. Senator Barack Obama was elected Senator of Illinois and began his term in January of 2005. By Janaura of 2007, he was officially running for President. By January of 2009, he was president. If Sarah Palin is "quitting on the voters of Alaska", what exactly did the other two do?
(Excerpt) Read more at theeprovocateur.blogspot.com ...
Sarah has put up with scrutiny and critisism that MOST politicians couldn’t bear. Obama is so thinned skinned he couldn’t take any of the tough knocks that Sarah has held up to and smiled.....Neither could Nancy Pelosi...or Bwarney Frank.....
Both mainstream media and mainstream Republicans are threatened by a person like Palin who does not feed on the perks of incumbency and practices term limits.
The mainstream insists that it can’t be done. So when it is done, they must find some sinister explanation for the honorable.

This feels almost eeriely like those moments in between the day McCain picked her and that awesome speech she gave at the Republican National Convention.
The media was doubting her. Bill O’Reilly was saying she had little credibility. Peggy Noonan was cursing. The media was underestimating her.
Isn’t it ironic. Sarah is the most popular figure in America right now. She is several thousand miles from Washington, D.C. As far away from the District of Columbia as you can possibly get. and she is no longer going to be in government. yet it feels like she is closer to the White House than any Republican on the planet. fitting for our times.
I get the point and agree with the post BUT..........we really need to change this “defense” attitude. Palin doesn’t need defending, from here on out we need OFFENSE. And I believe Sarah has already started.
that’s a good point. Palin can defend herself. Though, it is totally hypocritical that she is attacked as a “quitter” when we have turned our political culture into one where people are lauded for seeking higher office while they hold another office. Somehow that is all right but what Palin did isn’ all right. Frankly, I don’t think either is all right, but fair is fair.
Sarah needs no defenders.
Apples to Oranges. Politicians often run for higher office, and if they win, they leave the previous office. Sometimes they promise to serve out their terms, but most of the time they have not.
Nobody would be criticizing Palin if she had won the VP slot and left her post as Governor.
It’s her reason for quitting that has caused the backlash, not simply that she isn’t serving out her term.
Anyway, nobody helps Palin by suggesting she is no worse than Barack Obama (who many conservatives criticized roundly for not doing his job as Senator).
i am getting sick of the Palin drooling. geez guys tone it down a notch. she sure did play into the leftist’s hands by quiting. ofcourse they will act indignate and say she is turning her back on Alaska.
she doesnt need mouthdrooling messiah worshippers either.
this is not to you specifically Phlap, unless it fits.

...the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to opposition research...So I choose, for my State and my family, more “freedom” to progress, all the way around... so that Alaska may progress... I will not seek re-election as Governor.
And so as I thought about this announcement that I wouldnt run for re-election and what it means for Alaska, I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade as so many politicians do. And then I thought thats whats wrong many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and milk it. Im not putting Alaska through that I promised efficiencies and effectiveness! ? Thats not how I am wired. I am not wired to operate under the same old politics as usual. I promised that four years ago and I meant it.
Its not what is best for Alaska.
The more I see evidence of this, the more I want to support her.
""" NO, its those Freepers who have been drinking the liberal media and beltway pundits kool-aid all weekend who are playing into the leftist hands.
Before coming to the conclusion that she is cutting and running, try listening to the take on all of this from the Great One mark Levin. He has made some great observations, that make me excited about this new turn of events.
The Mark Levin show from July 3rd is Worth listening to.
Its her reason for quitting that has caused the backlash, not simply that she isnt serving out her term.
So it would be OK to quit to become VP, but not to become President. Palin's supporters know why she is doing this.
Good for you, Sarah Palin!
At a time in American history when our liberties are under direct assault, our focus should be on how we can regain our countrys freedoms by understanding, supporting and embracing leaders who possess real character, courage, honesty, and integrity, leaders that put faith, country, and family at the forefront of their daily lives Leaders like Sarah Palin who because of her outside Washington DC politics position, has seen herself and her family mercilessly attacked by those who do not possess 1/10th of her integrity and character. We respect Sarah for taking this stand. After all, it is most apparent that Sarahs liberal adversaries are engaging in distractive techniques to prevent her from reaching the battle frontline where she would be a formidable force for the good of this country these distractive malicious attacks are similar to the devils spirit of distraction anytime a servant of the Lord attempts to follow His guidance. Hence, Sarahs advancement in a new direction is totally understandable under the circumstances and we hope that she will re-emerge in the political arena in the future. God knows this country needs leadership that holds to the values and principles that made this nation the greatest on earth.
practically speaking, she’s right. The problem is that what she says reveals a dirty truth about the nature of our system and that’s yet another reason why she is attacked.
The reality is that our system renders someone who can’t run for office again almost powerless. In effect, you are better off handing off the reigns than completing your term. That’s simple reality. Look at any executive who finished up their last term and you will always find the worst two years of that term.
One reason that she is being attacked so mercilessly is many of us don’t want to acknowledge that her decision reveals an ugly truth about our system.
Everything about Palin has revealed the ugly truth about Politics. The political system has become a joke. People who are all hypocritical run each four years for president. The choices suck and the system is flawed. Palin was a breath of fresh air and was trying to break into the good old boys network with her nomination as VP. Some in the media, the elites in politics in both parties, and liberals don’t like it. They can’t handle the truth.
I’m sorry, but Palin is not going to be President today.
When she ran for VP, she was still Governor while she was running for VP.
Not running for office again because she files to run for President is not a problem either. And frankly, if it was 2010 and she needed two years to run for President, and she was filing to run, and quit in order that she wouldn’t take away from Alaska, that would be more understandable as well.
But as I said, if she had stuck to the clear message as posted in this thread, it would have been more understandable than her actual message which included several less-than-stellar arguments about being a “lame duck” and about attacks on her family being too much.
The attacks were too much, but that same excuse would preclude her from running for any other office. It’s not going to get any easier. And too many politicians have accomplished great things in the last 2 years of their last term to denigrate them by suggesting nothing good could come of serving to the end of a term.
The whole country is full of quitters. Obama likes them like that so they can live off big government.
I am not happy about the palin bashing either, but some are treating her like some democrats treat obama, I am quite sure there are a few democrats that are sick of the obama hinny licking. I cant get a good feel for her because of all the slobbering going on, and I dont listen to what the liberals say anyway.
I'm trying to remember here. Were Mike Huckabee or Mitt Romney holding public office when they ran for president?
You spent several paragraphs arguing why stepping down was the right thing for her to do. You then concluded that it was the wrong thing to do.
Let us raise the level of discourse. I don't think Free Republic has social promotions.
Periods go inside double quotes: "governor."
Oh, I almost forgot. If you are going to quote someone at the top of your article, especially if it is President Ronald Reagan, give due credit by sourcing it. And I’m not sure how that quote ties in with the article. At all.
And that is why I’m just a knuckle dragging wrench swinger making comments on Free Republic.
I’m not a journalist, writer, pundit, commentator or author. I’m not even a blogger who signed up last November and posts several articles a day from his web site to drum up hits.
No. They had both completed their terms, and had not run again. That’s what some people expected Sarah to do.
Sarah did not resign her Governorship so she could run for Vice President, a job she was actively campaigning for for two months.
When Nixon was elected in 1968, he had not held office since early 1961, though he had been defeated in a run for Governor of California.
When Reagan was elected, it had been almost six years since he had been Governor.
What Palin does in the next 16 months will tell us a lot. If she campaigns effectively for many Republicans, in 2010, she will be strongly positioned for a Presidential run regardless of what you and other naysayers want.
