Staten Island, NY, July 9, 2009 Dr. Betsy McCaughey, the former Lt. Governor of New York State, health care policy expert and staunch patient rights advocate, has agreed to speak at the Staten Island Tea Party at the Park, on Sunday, August 2, 2009.
Dr. McCaughey has been an outspoken critic of government run health care as far back as the Clinton Administration, and was credited at that time with exposing so many flaws in Hillary-care that she was considered to be instrumental in its defeat.
She will speak at the Staten Island Tea Party at the Park, which is scheduled to start at noon, on Sunday, August 2nd. The venue is historic Conference House Park, at the foot of Hylan Boulevard on Staten Island.
Addressing the Kennedy health care plan, known as the Affordable Health Choices Act, Dr. McCaughey notes that the bill contains a mandate that will limit your choice of health plans and restrict when you can see a specialist. You may be compelled to pay 10% or more of your income for insurance you don't want. She is quick to point out that the bill contains a great deal of Washington double-talk.
For example, explains Dr. McCaughey, it states, No individual shall be compelled to enroll in a qualified health plan, but if you file a tax return and fail to attach proof of your qualifying health plan, the IRS will find you, notify you of your default and fine you.
Of course, people on Medicare, Medicaid and other government programs are exempt. But the outrage is that members of Congress are exempting themselves.
According to Tea Party organizer Frank Santarpia of Huguenot, Nationalizing our health care system will put the federal government in charge of almost 20% of our entire economy, and displace the greatest health care system in the world.
He goes on to say, It is an unconscionable expansion of federal powers, and another blatant intrusion into the free market system.
Addressing the need for continued tea parties, Mr. Santarpia explained that Staten Islanders voices are just not being heard: Congressman McMahon continues to vote in favor of the Obama/Pelosi socialist agenda, which ignores the wishes of what I believe to be the majority of his constituents. Our voices must be heard.
The Staten Island Tax Day Tea Party is not affiliated with any formal organization political or otherwise; it is merely a handful of concerned citizens speaking their minds.
More information can be found at www.teapartyinfo.com. The event is being organized by Frank Santarpia and Lorraine Scanni in an effort to inform Congressman McMahon about the true feelings of many of his constituents.
