I own a copy of the poster used in that motivational graphic. Its hanging over my workbench in my workshop, next to the gun safe.
the tagline on that motivational graphic is pretty much dead on right. Except my Evil Black Rifle doesnt have a disco or a camper. Yet.

Heh, that’s a pretty good start on the breadth of this phenomenon. You’d have to add in the barrelled upper assemblies in multiple calibers (from .22LR on up) and modular lower receivers with interchangeable magazine wells to *really* show the “tacticool” mania in full bloom.

Just the AN/PVS-14 Gen III Pinnacle will set you back $4k. Add an Aimpoint ($500), BUIS ($300), and front grip ($50) will get you real close to your $5k figure.
And that doesn’t even include the rifle! (another $1k-$1.5k depending on options)

One each YMH Smooth upper: 16”, BUI, birdcage...
Oly lower, self assembled, RRA two stage trigger.
CCA telestock, open to replace...
Comp M3: 4 MOA.
Expected use is targets under 200 yards, with in truck support a major requirement.
Does what I need it to do, so why ask for more?
... although, there was that low light camera/thermal imaging sight system I did a few years back...

I thought G.I Joe dolls were more like Barbie dolls.
Owning an M-4 is like owning a really expensive radial saw and all the accessories are a must.

I always add tritium sights front and back :-)
That adds another 100 bucks to the cost.

Technically, I don't think you can call the one most civilians can own an M4. An M4 is full auto or 3-shot burst, right?
Speaking of which. I need some advice on purchasing some "barbie accessories" for a stripped lower I recently acquired. Stock/trigger/grip/etc.

The only firearm I have ever named is a ParaOrdance P-14. One of the early ones. It’s all black with stainless safeties and slide release.
I call it “Thumper”.

I have owned several AR type guns. My favorite by far was an H-Bar with the .22 LR conversion unit.
It had a 20” barrel which is as short as I would want and the conversion unit to my surprise was 100% reliable and was also accurate which I was a little concerned about as the AR-15 had a 1/7 twist and I think something like 1/16 is standard for the long rifle barrels.
The M4 has too short a barrel for the .223 cartridge to really perform well.

I grew up with the 12" fully-detailed GI Joes. My favorite accessory was the deep sea diver outfit. With that, Joe could go diving in the pool and wreak serious havoc on all the female unidentified vessels in the pool.
Oh, and Joe was subjected to numerous battle wounds. One had only to extract the flash powder from a Black Cat firecracker to receive a nasty Purple Heart. He earned his honor in his surly plasticness.
Joe was subjected to 100 MPH Jeep wrecks, sailboats with no skipper, and horrendous falls. But Joe always had his detailed accessories (even tiny zippered pockets) to lash back at the attacking hordes.
Go Joe!

I love the poster, but I’m not sure all of those accessories are easily available on the civilian market and/or even necessary. I’ll take solid shooting competence over farkles any day of the week.
