A chilly airmass for the month of July is sinking south out of Canada and it will encompass much of the nation along and east of the Mississippi River from the Canadian border to the Deep South through this weekend.

Temps in the 80’s this weekend isn’t exactly a deep chill.. It’s a heat wave compared to the temps we’ve had all month in NJ.

Lots of clouds and rain here this summer. Lack of solar wind creates more clouds. Sun has been inactive for a year.

This is by far the coolest July I have seen in NC since living here (30 yrs). We have had 6 night time lows in the 50’s. We have not seen 90. We may see low 50’s or even high 40’s this weekend. We better hope for massive cow farts before the crops fail.

Its been fairly dry here in my part of the country. Looked like rain for a while yesterday but the clouds rained themselves out before they got here.

We here in the central plains states have had a genuine heat wave. It hit 107 Tuesday.

We’ve been spoiled by the summers of 2007 and 2008 where we barely tapped 90 a few times.

Many parts of TN will stay in the 70’s on Saturday. While not unheard of, usually it’s the result of rain. Dry and cool is the forcast. I love it.

I bought this house in 1981. Until this year, I had NEVER used my furnace in June. Just to get the temp up to 60.....

Normally, end of April, the furnace gets turned off and the windows go open.....

I'm in east-central Alabama...

Me, too!

I am absolutely tickled by this. June was too hot. I planted a lot of my vegetables late this year and those that survived June are now doing very well. Usually all but okra and field peas are all I have growing by the end of July. Right now, I still have sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, snap beans, and of all things, broccoli! Broccoli in Alabama in July!? A first for me.

Brrmidji? Might as well bring a chainsaw instead. You know the old line: You can give a man some stove wood and heat him for awhile or you can teach a man to cut his own stove wood and heat himself all summer.

hey going commando saves money: on laundry, use less detergent and energy, and no buying underwear. it also saves time getting dressed and undressed.
and i have a clothes line with clothes pins.

Been a great summer here in KY. Temps taking a dip this weekend. Lows in the 50s - Highs in low 70s. This is July???

I call my friends in FL regularly to lord it over them. It was 101 in Apopka today. Folks there are rather envious of us.

Or (being Minnesotan):

Give a man a fish, you'll feed him for a day.

Teach him how to FReep, and he won't bother you for weeks.

Cheers!

Good idea. A greenhouse is in our future too.
The Mennonite farmers around here start their truck garden stuff in January-February and have fresh tomatoes for sale by April 1st.

I live at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. Nothing grows here but crabgrass. Now, my perennials - muscadines, blueberries, raspberries, Granny Smith apples - do great. I've gardened for 25 years - hell, I used to grow Serrano peppers and tomatoes in planter boxes outside my apartment window when I lived in the city - but since I moved here, my annuals don't flourish. I even built a planter bed last year that didn't do too hot, even full of high-grade soil and fertilizer. I've had to resort to Topsy-Turvy planters on the back porch for veggies, and all I've gotten so far is a few cups of cherry tomatoes. The squash and zucchini flower like crazy, then fall off. The peppers are just now beginning to bud. I've even tried dessicated chicken shit, and they still just take their good old time maturing. Full sun, plenty of water. I don't need another reason to drink. My wife and I have reached the conclusion that this house was built on an old Indain burial ground, and the native spirits are pissed. She's half Cherokee - she picked up the vibes pretty quick.
