Per the article, it appears they were mostly students at the community college where he was speaking. In other words, they were almost certainly required to attend as part of their poli sci or econ courses.
Seriously, even people who basically like Biden don’t tend to think of him as an inspiring speaker, worth cancelling other plans to go listen to.

A friend of mine from Delaware says Biden is like the stereotypical used car salesman you see on tv. He thinks he’s way slicker than he really is, nobody with half a brain really trusts him, and he’s usually doing something phony with his hair. :-)
I wonder how many people would show up to hear Sarah Palin give a speech? A lot more than 140, I bet.
In all fairness to Biden he was competing against fresh paint that was drying on a some new construction just two blocks away.
I used to live in Delaware where Biden is from. I’d be curious to see how many conservatives would show up for Cantor if the tactic were reversed.

And I’ll wager the clothes on my back that every single one of those 140 clowns were employees of one government entity or another...and were on the taxpayers dime during the gathering.
Biden would be more believable in a pair of wite patent leathers and a powder blue leisure suit.
I have to say my opinion of Biden has gone up in the last few months. If, as they say, history repeats itself, the first time as tragedy the second time as farce, Biden is the farce to Zero’s tragedy.
Biden is like a character in Shakespeare, the old drunk that stumbles on the stage after magnificent tragedy has unfolded to allow the audience to catch their breath, laugh a little, and recover emotionally.
In Joe’s world, more is less, so less must be more...
So that’s 3 bus loads from ACORN and 20 members of the press.
