News is out tonight that long-time CBS News Anchorman Walter Cronkite has died at the age of 92 . . . . Cronkite was the news for several generations of Americans. It was a five-night a week tradition at my house to sit down and watch the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. In his later years, Cronkite revealed a very strong liberal bent, far more so than was obvious in his newscasts, although he certainly leaned toward the Democrats. But his face and voice will always be synonymous with the news. Below is video of one of his most famous moments, when he announced the death of President John F. Kennedy, on November 22, 1963 . . . (Watch Video of Cronkite)

His declaration from the CBS anchor chair that the Vietnam War was lost, (post Tet 0ffensive,) gave the North Vietnamese and the anti-war movement added propaganda to use against America.
He was a traitor and I’ll shed no tears for him.

CBS has yet to cut into their silly shows to do a larger commentary. However Fox and Cnn and Msnbc are going with comments from people who worked with him
Is it any wonder CBS has no viewership?
Where is Curic? in Martha's vineyard? I might not have thought about him in a few years but he made CBS millions yet they do not cut got into Ghost Whisperer?Don Hewitt had to comment on FoXnews.CBS stinks.

He is the first in a long line of liberal commentators that lost their way. God rest his soul.

I understand that you mean well.
But in Cronkites time his blatant partinsanship and prejudices and worship of JFK and LBJ were accepted as honest journalism as there was simply no other source of information for thee and me.
He and CBS were worse than MSNBC and Olberman, but there was no context.

Or perhaps he’s the first casualty of Obama care, having a heart attack upon seeing how his 70 year career in news/politics sewed the seeds of his own demise.

Some of the comments are simply shocking.

We can - should be able to - separate politics, commerce and personal lives.

“when I think of how what we now call the MSM has damaged this country and continues to do so day after day, I’d welcome the likes of Uncle Walter back into the anchor chair.”

Sorry, but I know people who died in that mess this ba$stard helped to create. So, in less than a month we lost a child molester and a traitor . . . Worthless human beings!

Americans loved Walter Cronkite. They put faith in him as they might a family member with loads of compassion toward others (the community).

Americans were 'emotionally' bound (and thus let their liberal side prevail).

Communitarians with bleeding hearts likely opened the door for the 'marxist' collectivists who now are calling the shots. Did I say, "likely",? What I really meant was: bet your ass, they did.

Imagine a news icon relating the story of rugged individualists fending off urban spawned criminals, leading eventually to full social acceptance and application of the second ammendment.

If I thought that's all it would take (playing on people's emotions) to get us back on track, I'd help pay the cost of plastic surgery for someone who's 'image' would have to proceed the message.(Meghan Kelly perhaps, 'cause no surgery necessary but- could use a serious 'news' icon 'boost'.)

I'm embarrassed to admit I live in TV Land. But I'm not too stupid to realize it's potential when it comes to reaching 'the masses'. (I don't think this was a hump the Founding Fathers ever envisioned, btw.) TV is not just for emotional women with hormone issues, so why does our national policy on almost everything seem predicated on such?

I'll tell you why: there's been a collective banning of Power to the Penis. That's right. We're living in the era of the Vagina Monolouges.

We can't tell someone they're on their own with six kids living in a ghetto, 'cause we "have no penis". We can't tell a student to look for a job the government hasn't created because "we have no penis". We can't even tell the State to "Go to hell, we're not paying anymore taxes" because we have no penis. By now, some are probably made ill by my refrences to a body part, but let's face it, much of America is run by, and headed on a course suitable to, those 'without' one. Think about it.

I served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. Cronkite got it wrong, which was the first clear indication of how biased and unfair the MSM was. Ever since, the MSM believes that they can steer events and shape national policy. Cronkite was not a journalist, but rather, a partisan hack.

Now, as has been often the case, we must suffer through the lionization of another TV celebrity "journalist" as part of the self-serving efforts of the MSM to elevate their own. Cronkite was a legend in his own mind. I do find it amusing that Katie Couric is currently filling the Cronkite chair.

Yes, he was a liberal in his personal beliefs but with few exceptions, he adhered to a standard of journalism that has been lost.

You must be joking. How old are you?

Cronkite was a public figure. He affected other people's lives and even our national policies. How can you separate him from that? When Teddy Kennedy kicks the bucket, will you say the same thing?

Cronkite involved himself in politics, and he is subject to the same criticism as any politician. In fact, our present-day commentators should be treated the same way.

Agreed. Since when does death insulate someone from criticism?
