State law requires toy guns to be made from materials that couldn't possibly be confused with an actual weapon, or carry colorful markings including a big orange stripe.

In a related story Attorney General Cuomo vowed to arrest President Obama and forcibly paint the end of his finger pistol orange for making threatening gestures during a New York news conference.

Remember the good old days when you could have fun with cap pistols?

They still have cap pistols but as far as I can tell they barely work because:
1. The gun mechanisms are so cheaply made that they won't feed the caps properly.
2. They have greatly reduced the amount of powder in the caps.

Caps used to give a much more satisfying bang. When I was five years old I decided to see what would happen if I dropped a brick on a whole roll of caps. The bang was so loud that my ears were ringing for a long time.

For my first child, I did not want him to think a gun was a toy so I banned them. When he started to play with Duplo’s and bristle blocks he made his own guns. I then realized how stupid my idea was.
